Passenger vehicle wholesales jump over two-fold to 2,51,052 units in May

Passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers in India rose over two-fold last month on a low base of Covid-19-hit May last year. As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle wholesales rose to 2,51,052 units last month as compared to 88,045 units in May 2021. The two-wheeler sales rose to 12,53,187 units in May as compared to 3,54,824 units in the year-ago period. Similarly, total three-wheeler dispatches stood at 28,542 units last month as against 1,262 units in May 2021. Overall sales of PVs, two-wheelers and three-wheelers rose to 15,32,809 units in May. The same stood at 4,44,131 units in the preceding year. "Sales of two-wheelers and three-wheelers continue to remain sluggish in the month of May 2022, as they are even below of what it was 9 years and 14 years ago, respectively," SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. Tata Power to set up EV charging stations at vehicle zones of Apollo Tyres

Tata Power has partnered with Apollo Tyres to deploy electric vehicle charging stations at the latter's commercial and passenger vehicle zones across India. Tata Power and Apollo Tyres have announced a strategic partnership in this regard, a statement said. Tata Power has a presence across all the segments of the EV charging ecosystem and has deployed all types of chargers DC 001, AC, Type2, Fast DC chargers up to 50kwh and up to 240kwh chargers for buses. "We are glad to partner with Apollo Tyres for the deployment of EV charging stations across their commercial & passenger vehicle zones. This partnership reflects our commitment to developing and expanding the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country," Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, stated. Based on location, this classification of chargers will support EV charging for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, respectively. Passenger vehicle dispatches slide 13% in December on chip shortage: SIAM

Passenger vehicle wholesales in India declined 13 per cent to 2,19,421 units last month, auto industry body SIAM said on Friday. Passenger vehicle sales in December 2020 stood at 2,52,998 units. As per the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), two-wheeler sales also fell 11 per cent to 10,06,062 units, compared to 11,27,917 vehicles in December 2020. Motorcycle sales declined 2 per cent to 7,26,587 units as against 7,44,237 units in December 2020. Scooter sales were also down 24 per cent at 2,46,080 units from 3,23,757 vehicles a year ago. In October-December period of this fiscal year, passenger vehicle sales declined 15 per cent to 7,61,124 units from 8,97,908 units in the year-ago period. Two-wheeler sales during December quarter dropped 25 per cent to 35,98,299 units as compared to 47,82,110 units in the same period a year ago.
