Rajasthan Police performed duty with impartiality, says CM Ashok Gehlot

183 criminals killed in police encounters since March 2017: UP Police

The Uttar Pradesh Police said Friday that they have gunned down 183 alleged criminals in encounters in the six years of Yogi Adityanath's government and this included gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad's son Asad and his accomplice, who were killed in an exchange of fire in Jhansi. The UP Police data showed that more than 10,900 police encounters have taken place in the state since March 2017, when Adityanath took over as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. In these encounters, 23,300 alleged criminals were arrested and 5,046 were injured. The number of policemen injured in them was 1,443 and 13 were killed, the data showed. Of the 13 policemen killed in encounters since March 2017, eight were ambushed in a narrow lane of Kanpur by the aides of notorious gangster Vikas Dubey. Bihar Police detain one person for hoax bomb call to Patna airport

Bihar Police has detained one person on Wednesday after a hoax call was made claiming that an explosive was planted at the Jayprakash Narayan International Airport here earlier in the day. The caller was detained by the police in Samastipur, senior superintendent of police of Patna Rajeev Mishra told PTI. Initial investigations have revealed that the caller was in an inebriated state when he made the call, he said. "The entire area was scanned thoroughly but no suspicious object was found. The search operation was carried out without inconveniencing the passengers," Mishra said. The matter is being investigated, he said. Security was beefed up at the airport after the call was made to a landline number on Wednesday morning, an airport official said. In Rajasthan, cops violating traffic rules to pay double fine, face probe

Now policemen not following traffic rules in Rajasthan will have to pay double fine and departmental action will be taken against them in a strict move to curb such violations, an official statement said on Tuesday. The directions in this regard were issued by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) V K Singh on the instruction of Director General of Police Umesh Mishra. Singh said those police officials who do not wear helmets and sit with more than two passengers on a two-wheeler, not wear seat belts while driving a four-wheeler, jump red light, drink and drive and violate other traffic rules as prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act will have to pay double the normal fine. He said departmental action will also be initiated against such policemen.

Guj police conduct raids at 17 jails in state to check illegal activities

Gujarat police are conducting raids across 17 jails in the state to check if any illegal activities are taking place there and also to ensure that the inmates are getting facilities they are entitled to as per the law, a top official said. As many as 1,700 police personnel, including officers, are involved in the operation that began Friday night, state Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay said. The raids are being conducted in central jails in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and other cities as well in sub-jails, he told reporters on Friday night when the operation was underway. "The purpose behind the raids is to find out if any illegal activities are taking place in the jails and to prevent them. Sniffer dogs have also been roped in this intense search operation," Sahay said. Another suspected spy pigeon caught in Odisha's Puri district, says police

A suspected spy pigeon was found in Odisha's Puri district, police said on Thursday. This is the second incident in the state in a week as another such pigeon was caught from a fishing boat off the Paradip coast in Jagatsinghpur district on March 8, they said. This new pigeon was caught on Wednesday at Nanpur village in Astarang block of Puri district. A local nabbed it when it came for mingling with the other pigeons, police said. It had tags attached to its legs with brass and plastic rings. One of the tags had 'REDDY VSP DN' engraved, while another bore the number 31 on it, they said. Villagers claimed the pigeon was in the area for a week. "We have pet pigeons at our house. This pigeon came to mingle with our doves, and we found something peculiar about it. It remained aloof and did not freely mix with the other pigeons. We also noticed some tags on its legs. The Baramulla district police in Jammu and Kashmir celebrated International Women's Week on Saturday with senior officers appealing to women not to hesitate in reporting crimes against women while assuring the of prompt action. Suspected 'spy pigeon' to be sent to CFSL for forensic examination

A pigeon fitted with devices, with the police suspecting that the bird was being used for spying, will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination, police said. The bird was caught from a fishing boat off the Paradip coast of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district. Some fishermen found the pigeon perched on their trawler a few days ago. The bird was captured and handed over to the marine police at Paradip on Wednesday. The decision to send the bird to CFSL was taken after the State Forensic Laboratory here failed to elicit any data from a tiny camera like machine and a microchip attached to its legs, the police said. Unidentified caller threatens to blow up BKU leader Rakesh Tikait: Police

An unidentified person has threatened to blow up Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait and his family if he does not disassociate himself from farmer protests, police said on Friday. They said Gaurav Tikait, son of Rakesh Tikait's brother and BKU president Naresh Tikait, has filed a complaint that he has received a phone call from an unidentified person who has threatened to target Rakesh Tikait and his family members with a bomb if he does not stay away from farmer agitations. Akshay Sharma, the SHO of Bhaura Kalan police station, said a case has been filed in this connection. "We are trying to identify the caller and a probe is underway," Sharma said. The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the city police about the action taken by it against a Twitter user for his alleged offensive tweet on fact-checking website Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani, who was hearing Zubair's plea to quash an FIR registered against him after he responded to the Twitter user who was using a picture with his minor daughter as display picture on the platform, observed that although the police have not found anything against Zubair in the case, the matter should come to a logical closure. Observing that a victim has a fundamental right to a fair trial, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered Maharashtra Police to further investigate the alleged assault on a man at NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad's bungalow over an objectionable social media post. The alleged incident had taken place on the night of April 5, 2020. According to the victim's complaint, some policemen were also involved in "abducting" him and taking him to the bungalow of the former Maharashtra minister. Seven people, including five teens and a 2-year-old girl, were wounded Thursday evening in a shooting near a school in Philadelphia, police said. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports shots were fired shortly before 6 p.m. in the city's Strawberry Mansion neighbourhood. The 2-year-old was listed in stable condition at a hospital. She had been struck in the thigh. Five teenage boys were also injured and hospitalised. One, 15, was in critical condition and the rest were stable. A seventh victim was a 31-year-old woman, police said. She was also in stable condition. A motive was not immediately known and there were no arrests.
