Shiv Sena, BJP bound by Hindutva: Uddhav

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said his party and the BJP are bound by Hindutva and the two decided to enter into a pre-poll alliance after overcoming differences that soured their ties in the past. In an interview to Sena MP Sanjay Raut in party mouthpiece 'Saamana', Thackeray said he agreed to the alliance after BJP president Amit Shah came to him twice to sort out the issues. The Sena, which has often been critical of the BJP, its leadership and policies of the NDA government, entered into a seat-sharing pact with the ruling party recently. The BJP and Sena agreed to contest 25 and 23 seats, respectively, in Maharashtra which has 48 Lok Sabha constituencies. "...You ask me why did we agree to an alliance again. Modi trying to divide people, Wayanad is unity in diversity: IUML leader

A senior leader of the IUML, a major political force in Wayanad from where Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is contesting elections, on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of aiming to divide people on the basis of religion and said he should see all Indians as one. Special election to test Pittsburgh's suburbs ahead of 2020

Pittsburgh's suburbs, perhaps the most politically poked and prodded territory in Pennsylvania recently, are under the microscope again in a state legislative election that some see as an early test of President Donald Trump's strength in a critical battleground ahead of 2020. The open state Senate seat is in a territory historically influenced by Republican enclaves outside the Steel City but also viewed as increasingly friendly to Democrats, even as the area's more rural coal regions have swung to Republicans. Tuesday's special election pits Republican D Raja against Democrat Pam Iovino for a seat largely controlled by Republicans the past 50 years. Raja is the chairman and chief executive of an information technology consulting firm he helped start after he emmigrated from India. Iovino is a Navy veteran who served as an assistant secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The district is politically divided: Democrats have a registration edge, even though Trump won it in .
