Sonam Wangchuk to continue fast, cites police action against CJP protesters

Activist Sonam Wangchuk announced on Monday that he would continue his indefinite hunger strike, saying the police action against protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" march has prompted him to extend the fast until youth leaders are allowed to meet parliamentarians or he is permitted to do so from the hospital. In a handwritten statement issued from the Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk said, "Seeing the brutality with which peacefully protesting youth are being dealt with, I have decided to continue my fast until the youth leaders are allowed to meet the parliamentarians at the Sansad Bhawan or I am allowed to meet them here at the hospital." "Hopefully, the government will fix accountability for the Education Minister before that," he added. Wangchuk said he is "touched and moved" by the manner in which the protesters have maintained peace despite "provocation". "I appeal to the government and the police force to resolve the issue by simply allowing the

NC says govt promise unfulfilled, stages protest in Delhi for J-K statehood

Escalating the political showdown over Jammu and Kashmir's political status, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, ministers, MLAs and party workers staged a protest in the national capital on Monday, demanding the immediate restoration of statehood to the Union Territory. The demonstration, held on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session, was, however, overshadowed by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest march to Parliament. Omar, who arrived from Jammu in the morning, was unable to reach the protest venue at Jantar Mantar due to the heavy deployment of police personnel for the CJP protest. The group of around 100 NC protesters gathered with placards reading "Apna wada pura karo" (fulfil your promise) and "Restore full statehood," raising slogans targeting the Union government over the delay in restoring statehood. The chief minister later tried to reach the Constitution Club, where a seminar on statehood was ...

Several CJP protesters detained at key locations during march to Parliament

Several protesters were detained and removed from multiple locations across the New Delhi district on Monday as forces stepped up action to prevent demonstrators from assembling and marching towards Parliament, sources said. Detentions were made from areas such as Mandi House, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street and other key locations where the protesting groups attempted to gather despite heightened security arrangements and prohibitory orders being in force, they said. At least seven people were detained near the Reserve Bank of India, close to Parliament. Those detained were being taken to different locations across the national capital, away from the protest site, to prevent them from regrouping and disrupting law and order, sources said. They will be released after being issued warnings, a source said, adding that police would verify the antecedents of those detained to ascertain whether any of them had previous criminal records. Security remained tight ac

Ahead of Manipur BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte's last rites, hundreds of Kukis took to the streets of Churachandpur district on Saturday morning protesting Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh's visit, officials said. At least six Kuki organisations boycotted the visit of Singh to the Kuki-Zo majority district, demanding a permanent resolution to the simmering ethnic conflict in the state. Dipke, CJP supporters continue sit-in overnight protest at Jantar Mantar

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with supporters, continued the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar overnight, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy, and urged people to join the demonstration on Sunday. The protest entered its second day as Dipke appealed to people to reach Jantar Mantar, while asking NEET re-exam aspirants to join the agitation after completing their test. "We are holding the fort but without your support this movement won't be successful," Dipke said as he urged people to join the protest on Sunday. The demonstration has continued even after Delhi Police said the permission granted for the gathering ended at 5 pm on Saturday and asked the protesters to vacate the site. Dipke asked police to assign a different site for the protest, but until then, they would continue their sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Sack Dharmendra Pradhan in 7 days or protest will spread nationwide: CJP

Security was intensified across Delhi on Saturday, with police deploying additional personnel at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, border entry points, and other sensitive locations ahead of a proposed protest call by the digital outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), officials said. Earlier this month, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke called on supporters and students to join his protest in Delhi. He also urged supporters to join him at the Delhi airport on June 6. Sources said police have not received any formal request seeking permission for the proposed protest, but are making security arrangements based on inputs available through social media monitoring and other channels. More than 1,000 police personnel have been earmarked for deployment across the New Delhi district and other strategic locations as part of preventive security measures, sources said. Security arrangements have been strengthened at the IGI Airport, major railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, and .

Education woes draw students, parents to CJP protest at Jantar Mantar

School students, college-goers, competitive exam aspirants and parents were among those who gathered at Jantar Mantar here on Saturday for a protest organised by the supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with many saying concerns over the education system had brought them to the demonstration. The crowds that started assembling from Saturday morning, kept swelling through the day. Several participants who spoke to PTI said recurring controversies around examinations, uncertainty over results and a lack of accountability from authorities have shaken their confidence in the system. Some also expressed disappointment with both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as the opposition parties, saying issues affecting young people are not receiving adequate attention. Parents accompanying children said the concerns extend beyond students. Nusrat Parveen, who attended the protest with her three daughters, said she has seen the pressure students face while preparing for .
