Bridgestone lines up Rs 600 cr to improve capacity and tech at Pune plant

Tyre maker Bridgestone India on Monday said it will invest over Rs 600 crore over the next three years to expand production capacity and upgrade technology at its Pune-based plant. Initial investment for capacity and technology upgradation will be 70 million euros (over Rs 600 crore), the company said in a statement. It will improve the plant capability in terms of technologies and capacities for the manufacture of tyres for the passenger car segment, it added. "Bridgestone India is bringing in its global technologies and manufacturing for the Indian market so as to suit the needs of aspiring Indian consumers that want more fuel-efficient tyres, and better products to suit the improved quality of Indian roads," Bridgestone India Managing Director Stefano Sanchini stated. A two-day G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting will begin in Maharashtra's Pune city on Monday where participants will deliberate on various aspects of infrastructure investments. The meeting will be joined by 65 delegates from IWG member countries, guest nations and international organisations invited by India to discuss the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda under India's G20 presidency, as per an official release. Singapore's Changi Airport has re-established its link to all South Asian cities to the pre-pandemic level and added Pune to its network, reporting a strong rebound in passenger traffic, according to a media report on Sunday. M&M to invest Rs 10,000 cr to set up plant in Pune for upcoming EV range

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Wednesday said it will invest Rs 10,000 crore in the next 7-8 years in the manufacturing and development of electric vehicles at Pune, Maharashtra. The investment of Rs 10,000 crore for electric vehicles has been approved under the Maharashtra government's industrial promotion scheme for electric vehicles, M&M said in a regulatory filing. "The company, through its subsidiary, will make investments of approximately Rs 10,000 crore over a period of 7-8 years for setting up the manufacturing facility, development, and production of Mahindra's upcoming Born Electric Vehicles (BEVs)," it added. Elderly man infected with Zika virus in Pune, now fully recovered: Official

A 67-year-old man was found infected with Zika virus in Pune city of Maharashtra, but is now fully recovered and exhibiting no symptoms of the disease, the state health department said on Friday. The man, who hails from Nashik and had a travel history to Surat in neighbouring Gujarat, was found infected last month, it said in a bulletin. "He had come to Bavdhan area in Pune on November 6, but had gone to Surat later. On November 16, he visited Jehangir Hospital (in Pune) for treatment of fever, cough, joint-pain and fatigue, and tests conducted in a private laboratory on November 18 confirmed he was infected with the virus," it said. Further tests at the premier National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune again confirmed the infection, it added. "In the backdrop (of the infection), the health department has intensified the epidemiological survey in Pune city and Bavdhan area," it said. Actor Vikram Gokhale dies in Pune hospital following health complications

Veteran film, television and stage actor Vikram Gokhale on Saturday died at a city-based hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the last couple of weeks, the hospital authorities said. Gokhale, 77, was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital here earlier this month following health complications. His mortal remains will be kept at the Balgandharva Auditorium in the city and the last rites will be performed at the Vaikunth crematorium in the evening, a family friend of the actor said. Pune accident: Driver arrested; probe suggests engine switched off on slope

City police on Monday arrested the driver of the truck, a day after it hit several vehicles on a Mumbai-Bengaluru highway stretch in Pune and caused a pile-up, while the preliminary investigation suggested the driver had switched off the engine on a bridge slope resulting in the accident, officials said. Police also arrested the driver's assistant from Pimpri Chinchwad township, an official said. At least 24 vehicles were damaged late Sunday evening when the truck hit multiple vehicles on the downward slope of Navale bridge on the highway in Pune, injuring more than 20 people, eight of them hospitalised, an official had said. "The driver of the truck, Maniram Yadav, and his assistant, Lalit Yadav, were arrested from Chakan area of Pimpri Chinchwad neighbouring Pune," said Shailesh Sankhe, senior police inspector. 8 hospitalised, 24 vehicles damaged in mega pile-up on highway near Pune

At least 24 vehicles were damaged after a truck lost control on the downward slope of a bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway late Sunday evening, in which several persons suffered injuries with eight of them being hospitalised, a police official said. The accident occurred on Navale bridge to suspected brake failure of the truck when it was moving towards Pune, he said. Ten to 15 people received minor injuries in the incident and they were given first aid on the spot. However, six to eight others were shifted to two hospitals for treatment, the official said. "The truck hit some vehicles on the road due to suspected brake failure and at least 24 vehicles, including the truck, suffered damages in the incident. While 22 of these vehicles were cars, one was an autorickshaw. Fortunately, there is no loss of human life in the accident," Suhel Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) said.
