He chose to threaten a constitutional body: EC on Rahul's Karnataka claims

The Election Commission on Thursday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's claim that it allowed cheating in a Karnataka constituency and said that besides making "baseless allegations", the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha chose to "threaten" a constitutional body. Gandhi said the Congress has "concrete 100 per cent proof" that the Election Commission (EC) allowed cheating in a constituency in Karnataka and warned the poll panel that it will not get away with this "because we are going to come for you". Responding to Gandhi's statement, the EC said that as far as the Karnataka elections are concerned, it is "highly unfortunate" that rather than filling an election petition as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, or if filed, awaiting the verdict of the high court, he not only made "baseless allegations" but has also "chosen to threaten" the EC, a constitutional body. Gandhi alleged that the EC is not functioning as the Election Commission of India, a

Rahul questions PM's silence as Trump repeats India-Pak ceasefire claim

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attacked the government over US President Donald Trump repeating his claims about bringing about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, saying there is something fishy as the American leader has made the statement "25 times". The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha questioned as to who is Trump to get a ceasefire done and said Prime Minister Modi has not given a reply even once. Asked about Trump's claim and if the PM should make a statement as being demanded by the opposition, Gandhi said, "How can the prime minister make a statement. What will he say-- Trump got it done, he can't say that. But that is the truth. Trump got the ceasefire done, the whole world knows. That is the reality." "This is not just about ceasefire there are big problems that we want to discuss. There are problems related to defence, defence industry, Operation Sindoor. The situation is not good and the whole world knows. Those who call themselves patriot have run .

Mehbooba Mufti urges Rahul Gandhi to raise Muslim issues in Parliament

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday urged Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue of alleged Muslim victimisation across the country in the Monsoon session of Parliament, which started on Monday. In a post on X, she alleged that Muslims are being pushed into increasingly desperate situations under the pretext of targeting "Bangladeshis" and "Rohingyas". Disturbing media reports have even suggested that some were forced into the sea in attempts to expel them from India, she added. "Deeply disturbed by the ongoing victimization, dispossession and disempowerment of Muslims on a daily basis - I have written to Rahul Gandhi ji urging him to raise this critical issue in the upcoming Parliament session," Mufti said in the post on X. She said in an environment "increasingly marked by hate and fear", many have "lost hope and feel utterly helpless". "At this moment he stands as a rare source of hope for those who feel

Never allowed to speak in Lok Sabha despite being LoP: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, it is his right to speak in the House, but was not being allowed while the people of the government were making their statements. Gandhi made the remarks to the media after the House witnessed protests by the opposition and was adjourned for the second time in the day. The Lok Sabha witnessed noisy protests by opposition parties seeking a discussion on Operation Sindoor on the first day of the Monsoon session. "The question is that the defence minister and their (the BJP) people are allowed to speak, but if someone from the opposition wants to say something, he is not allowed," Gandhi said. "I am the Leader of Opposition, it is my right, I am never allowed to speak," he said, adding that this is a "new approach". Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi said he "ran out of the House in a second". "The debate will happen if they allow it, but the issue is that the victim sta
