Heavy rainfall is likely to lash several parts of Odisha on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for eight districts and warning fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre on Sunday issued an Orange Warning' (be prepared) for Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts for August 25, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places. A yellow warning' (be aware) has been sounded for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Cuttack districts also for Monday. The department also forecast thunderstorms with lightning and winds (3040 kmph) at a few places over Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts. Heavy rains wreak havoc in Rajasthan; Jaipur schools shut for two days

Heavy to very heavy rain continued in various parts of Rajasthan in the last 24 hours, with Dausa recording the highest rainfall at 29 cm, officials said on Sunday. Several areas in Bundi, Sawaimadhopur and Kota districts are facing flood-like situations where rescue and relief works are underway. On Sunday, there is a strong possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain in parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Bikaner and Ajmer divisions. The state capital is reeling under rain, which continued for the second consecutive day, leading to waterlogging in several areas. Roads in many parts of the city were submerged, with water levels reaching knee height. This disrupted traffic, causing inconvenience to commuters, especially in the Walled City areas. Given the heavy rain forecast, District Collector Jitendra Soni has ordered all government and private schools to remain shut on Monday and Tuesday. Power outages were also reported in several areas due to faults in transformers and power lines.

Moderate showers trigger traffic jams in Delhi, city under yellow alert

The national capital on Sunday afternoon received moderate rainfall causing traffic snarls in some parts of the city, officials said. Areas including Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung and Lodi Road, recorded showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed. Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar and Deramandi also logged rainfall, it added.0 Traffic jams were seen in ITO, Lajpat Nagar and Connaught Place. Earlier in the day, Delhi recorded 36 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am. The minimum temperature settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, while the maximum is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. Relative humidity was recorded at 97 per cent at 8.30 am, the weather office said. 400 roads closed in Himachal, IMD predicts heavy rains till August 30

A total of 400 roads including two national highways are closed for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh as moderate to heavy rains continued to lash parts of the state, officials said on Sunday. Among these, 221 roads were closed in Mandi district and 102 in the adjoining Kullu. National Highway 3 (Mandi-Dharampur road) and NH 305 (Aut-Sainj road) were also closed, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said. According to officials, 208 power supply transformers and 51 water supply schemes were disrupted in the state. The local meteorological office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in isolated areas of two to seven districts in the state till August 30. Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of the state since Saturday night with Pandoh recording the highest rainfall of 123 mm, followed by 105 mm in Kasauli, 104.6 mm in Jot, and 68 mm in Mandi and Karsog. Five dead, 1 person missing as heavy rains wreak havoc in Jharkhand

Five people were killed, one person was missing, and several others were injured as heavy rains wreaked havoc in parts of Jharkhand, officials said on Saturday morning. A woman and her seven-year-old son died after their house collapsed in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday night, they said. Eight more people were injured in the incident, which happened in Dandu village in Rajnagar block, they added. "The woman and her son died during treatment at the MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur. Eight others were also injured as the kuchcha house of one Santosh Lohar collapsed," Rajnagar's BDO Malay Das told PTI. The incident happened when relatives were visiting Lohar's house, a police officer said. In another incident in the district, a five-year-old died and three others were injured as the wall of a house collapsed on Saturday morning, police said. The incident happened in Kol Shimla in the Kharsawan police station area, they said. A couple was washed away in a swelling river in Chatra .

Low-pressure over Bay of Bengal, North Andhra may intensify into depression

The Meteorological Department on Monday forecast that the well-marked low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal, North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts is likely to deepen into a depression in the next 12 hours, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Andhra Pradesh. In the wake of this weather system, the Met Department forecast extremely heavy rain in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam, the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and heavy rain in parts of Rayalaseema. IMD forecasts heavy rain in Telangana, red alert in place till August 20

The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in several districts of Telangana until August 20. In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department forecast "heavy to very heavy rainfall" from Sunday until 8.30 am on August 20. A 'red alert' has been issued from 8.30 am on August 18 to 8.30 am on August 19, warning of "very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall" likely at isolated locations in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad districts. A 'red alert' indicates "extremely heavy rainfall" exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours. The IMD further warned that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across all districts of the state until August 22. Heavy rains have been affecting different parts of Telangana over the past few days, causing waterlogging on roads, inundation in low-lying areas, and swollen rivulets and other water bodies. This has disrupted road connectivity between villages, sources said.

A generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain is likely in the national capital for the next few days, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be around 24 degrees Celsius, the weather department said on Friday. The weather remained cloudy during Independence Day celebrations on Friday in Delhi, with the maximum temperature settling at 30.1 degrees Celsius,? 3.7 notches below normal.
