Uttarakhand Congress seeks CBI probe into land allotment to Ramdev's aide

The Congress on Sunday accused the Uttarakhand government of giving 142 acres of 'heritage' land of the George Everest Estate in Mussoorie, worth more than Rs 30,000 crore, to a company linked to yoga guru Ramdev's aide Acharya Balkrishna on an annual rent of just Rs 1 crore. The party demanded a CBI probe into the matter under the supervision of the high court. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara called it the "biggest scam in the state so far". He alleged that the scam in the tourism development project of George Everest Estate is clear evidence of the BJP's "crony capitalism". The Delhi High Court will on Monday pronounce its order on a plea by several doctors' associations against Yoga guru Ramdev over his claim of 'Coronil' being a "cure" for COVID-19. The plea forms a part of a 2021 lawsuit by the doctors' associations against the Ramdev, his associate Acharya Balkrishna as well as Patanjali Ayurveda. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani had reserved the order on the issue on May 21 after hearing the parties. According to the lawsuit, Ramdev made "unsubstantiated claims" with respect to 'Coronil' being a cure for COVID-19, contrary to the licence granted to the drug for merely being an "immuno-booster". The senior counsel appearing for the doctors had sought a direction to restrain the defendants, Ramdev and others, from making further similar statements. Baba Ramdev crossed a red line when he claimed he could cure COVID-19 and at the same time maligned modern medicine by calling it a "stupid and bankrupt science", Indian Medical Association president Dr R V Asokan said on Monday. Delhi HC defers hearing till August 30 on doctors' plea against Ramdev

The Delhi High Court Friday deferred hearing till August 30 on a lawsuit by several doctors' associations over the use of Coronil and said that judicial propriety and discipline demanded that proceedings be restrained until there is some clarity concerning the pendency of allegedly similar issues before the Supreme Court. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani asked that a copy of the petition by the Indian Medical Association pending before the apex court be placed before the high court to enable it to take a call on whether there is any commonality and if it should proceed any further. Judicial discipline demands that I restrain further proceedings in the matter till they (defendants) get some clarity (from the Supreme Court).
