First freight train carrying industrial salt from Gujarat reaches Anantnag

The first 21-wagon consignment of industrial salt from Gujarat reached south Kashmir on Friday, adding another milestone in freight transportation for the Jammu division of Northern Railway, officials said. The train, carrying 1,350 tonnes of industrial salt from Kharaghoda Goods Shed in Gujarat, arrived at the Anantnag goods shed in Kashmir, they said. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal said, The Jammu Division of Northern Railway on Friday received the first 21-wagon consignment of industrial salt from Gujarat at the Anantnag goods shed in Kashmir. The industrial salt is mainly used in tanning, pulp, soap, and brick kiln industries. According to officials, the new mode of transport will ensure a steady supply of essential commodities to the Valley, reduce logistics costs and travel time, and lessen dependence on road transport especially during adverse weather conditions when road connectivity is disrupted. Centre allows private bids for salt land transfer if states, CPSEs opt out

The Centre on Monday modified the guidelines for transfer of government-owned salt lands, providing for online auction under which the private sector can participate in case there are no takers from CPSEs, or states at the applicable rates. As per the revised guidelines, the land can be allocated for welfare measures, such as slum re-development, affordable housing and PM-Awas Yojana, and for the purpose of schools and colleges, lands can be transferred to CPSEs (central public sector enterprises), states and their enterprises at 25 per cent of the circle rate. These norms were issued in supersession of the internal policy guidelines-2012, after the approval of the Cabinet. "Online auction with the participation of private parties may be held in case CPSEs, state governments or their PSEs are not willing to take such lands at the applicable rates," the guideline said. The reserve price for such land parcel will be fixed through an approved valuer with reference to the circle rate .

TN CM lays foundation stone for Rs 4,276 cr 400 MLD desalination plant

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone here on Monday for a 400 Million Litres Per Day (MLD) desalination plant, set to be the biggest in south east Asia. The Rs 4,276.44 crore plant is to be set up with assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). To cater to the growing need for drinking water, steps have been taken by the state government to set up a 400 MLD plant at Perur on East Coast Road in Chengalpattu district, an official release said, adding, "This plant will be the biggest in Southeast Asia. Work to establish the plant will be completed before December 2026." The desalination plant will use technologically advanced water treatment systems such as dissolved air flotation and dual media filtration. The proposed new plant would benefit 22.67 lakh people living in localities under the Greater Chennai and Tambaram municipal corporations, apart from 20 village panchayats near Chennai city.
