Akhilesh slams UP govt for keeping Azam Khan, son in separate jails

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has condemned the government's decision to keep senior party leader Azam Khan and his family members in separate jails after the court convicted them in the fake birth certificate case, terming it as a move to "harass" the party leader's family. While the 75-year-old Azam Khan was shifted to Sitapur district jail, his son Abdullah Azam was moved to Hardoi district jail early Sunday. A Rampur court on Wednesday convicted Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima and son in a 2019 fake birth certificate case, and sentenced them to seven years in jail. Fatima is lodged in Rampur jail. In a post on X on Sunday, the SP chief said, "The way the vicious cycle of harassing the family of Honorable Azam Khan ji is going on is highly condemnable. Separating family members (in jails) is an old practice of those in power and is not justified under any circumstances on the basis of age. Everyone has stood together in his struggle for justice and will continue to do ...

MP assembly elections: Samajwadi Party releases list of nine candidates

The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Sunday declared a list of nine candidates for the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh scheduled on November 17. SP leader Yash Bhartiya said the names of six candidates on the list were announced earlier while three new names were added to it. "The nine candidates include former MLA Meera Deepak Yadav who is fielded from the Niwari assembly constituency," said Bhartiya. The Akhilesh Yadav-led party is planning to contest all 230 seats in MP as of now, he said. Besides Niwari, the candidates are announced for Rajnagar, Bhander, Dhauhani, Chitrangi, Sirmaur, Bijawar, Katangi and Sidhi assembly seats. The SP had won one seat- Bijawar in Chhatarpur district- in the 2018 MP assembly elections. When Congress fell short of majority despite emerging as the single largest party in the previous polls, two BSP MLAs, one SP legislator and four Independents provided outside support to the then Kamal Nath-led government.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant interim relief to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's son that the trial court in Uttar Pradesh be asked not to pass a final order in a pending criminal case against him till his claim of juvenility is ascertained. Akhilesh Yadav slams MP govt over atrocities, injustice against women

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday slammed the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh for the injustice meted out to women and termed the Ujjain incident involving the rape of a 12-year-old girl beyond imagination. The girl, who was raped and found bleeding on a street in MP's Ujjain city, was on Wednesday operated upon by a team of specialist doctors and her condition is critical but stable, an official has said. The assault on the minor has sparked massive public outrage. Despite BJP being in power (in MP) for nearly 20 years and at the Centre for 10 years, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of cases of injustice and atrocities against women in the country. This is not the figure of the Samajwadi Party, but that of NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau), said Yadav. The former UP chief minister arrived here on Wednesday to take part in a rally at Sirmaur in Rewa district in favour of his party candidate Laxman Tiwari. Upcoming assembly polls in five states will give a new direction to the country. I urge people to understand the seriousness before casting votes.
