US biggest export destination for Indian smartphones in April-May: Govt

India exported USD 2.43 billion worth of smartphones in April-May this fiscal, driven by a multifold jump in shipments to the US which emerged as the biggest destination for India-made devices, according to the government data. The smartphone exports to the US jumped multiple times to USD 812.49 million during the first two months of this fiscal as against USD 92.2 million in April-May 2022-23, the commerce ministry data showed. The US accounted for one-third of the shipments in value terms. The US was followed by the UAE (USD 484.52 million), the Netherlands (USD 205 million), the UK (USD 151.33 million), Italy (USD 136.57 million), and the Czech Republic (USD 115.5 million). Overall India's export of smartphones in 2022-23 was worth USD 10.95 billion. During April-May 2023-24, smartphone exports soared by 157.82 per cent over April-May 2022-23. Samsung eyes 50% market share in premium segment with Fold 5, Flip 5

Korean electronics major Samsung expects its new foldable devices Galaxy Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 will enable it to capture half of the super premium smartphone segment in India, currently dominated by iPhone maker Apple. Super premium smartphone segment comprises handsets priced above USD 1,000 (about Rs 82,000). Samsung Electronics president and head of Mobile eXperience Business T M Roh said that the company aims to increase its market share to 50 per cent with the launch of Galaxy Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 in the super premium segment from 35 per cent at present. "In the super premium segment, the Samsung foldable has about 35 per cent market share in the entire Indian market. And then now with the launch of Fold 5 and Flip 5, we are now targeting over 50 per cent in the USD-1,000 or higher super premium segment in India," Roh said. Samsung unveils foldable smartphones in bet on devices with bending screens

Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled two foldable smartphones as it continues to bet on devices with bending screens, a budding market that has yet to fully take off because of high prices. The clamshell-designed Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, a larger device that opens and folds like a book, can be pre-ordered in certain markets including the United States and South Korea starting Wednesday. Built with 6.7-inch and 7.6-inch main screens, the phones have bigger displays than Samsung's previous folding devices and are equipped with more advanced cameras, providing crisper visuals and more features for work, text and video chats, movies and games, the company said. India has changed digitally at a fast pace with the use of smartphones, and businesses will expand in the country in the coming years, a senior Samsung official said here. Samsung SouthWest Asia President and CEO JB Park said Digital India kind of projects were adopted in Korea in the past that brought growth and development in the country. India has a vast population under an average of 30 years, which will push for growth in demand and business, he added. "You have to think about the expanding population in India, and the proportion of people who are young, say below 30 years. You have to look at the penetration of each category, such as smartphones and refrigerators. If you look at India, in the next 20 years, the demand will not be soft, and businesses will expand," Park, who oversees India business, said. 'Power' and 'performance' key USPs of iQOO: CEO on launch of Neo 7 Pro

Smartphone company iQOO continues to witness growth in the industry as customers of iQOO are varied in comparison to those customers of its parent firm VIVO, a top official said on Tuesday, as the company launched its latest iQOO Neo 7 Pro. iQOO has priced the iQOO Neo 7 Pro at Rs 32,999. Company CEO Nipun Marya said his company has become the fastest growing Android-smartphone brand in Tamil Nadu. Xiaomi to bet big on Rs 10-15k segment for 5G smartphones, enhance reach

Smartphone maker Xiaomi is betting big on the Rs 10,000-15,000 device segment to regain its lost market share, a senior official of the company said on Friday. Xiaomi India, President, Muralikrishnan B said that the company has come up with a reset strategy and will focus to be "India's most loved and trusted smartphones" and IOT brand with "focus on efficiency and sustainability with a secure foundation." He said that Xiaomi will operate with a leaner product portfolio and focus on democratising 5G in the country. "Today most of the 5G devices that are being sold are above Rs 20,000.
