Military World Games in China next year will include badminton, tennis, table tennis
The 7th International Military Games to be held in China next year that is expected to attract over 10,000 athletes from 100 countries will for the first time include badminton, tennis, table tennis and men's gymnastics, Chinese military officials said. The Chinese military will host the 7th International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military World Games next year from October 18-27 in Wuhan, capital of country's Hubei province. While the event is expected to attract some 10,000 athletes from over 100 countries, the Chinese military said that it will field over 400 athletes. The Military World Games is a multi-sport event for the armed forces being organised by CISM every four year since 1995. While India hosted the games in 2007, the last venue for the event was South Korea in 2015. The games will see the biggest number of competition events ever, with more than 320 events over 27 categories to be held, Chinese defence ministry officials said on Wednesday. England's Bairstow out of fourth ODI after injury
England batsman Jonny Bairstow will miss the fourth one-day international against hosts Sri Lanka in Kandy on Saturday after injuring his ankle during training, team officials said. The 29-year-old right-hander hurt himself while playing football on Friday and will be replaced by Alex Hales, an England official said. England are leading the five-match series 2-0. The first match was washed out by monsoon rains. Bairstow's replacement comes after England all-rounder Liam Dawson was ruled out of the entire tournament. Dawson strained his right side while bowling during England's win in the third ODI last week. Dawson was replaced by Joe Denly. Saina, Srikanth storm into semifinals of Denmark Open
India's Saina Nehwal and Kidmabi Srikanth stormed into the semifinals of the Denmark Open with hard-fought victories over Nozomi Okuhara and Sameer Verma respectively. Saina, ranked 10th, recovered after the losing the first game to beat familiar foe and world number seven Okuhura of Japan 17-21, 21-16, 21-12 in the quarterfinal lasting 58 minutes on Friday night. The final point of the match was a long rally which ended with the Japanese finding the net. It was a morale boosting for the Indian star, having lost her previous three meetings to Okuhara including the most recent one in Korea last month. Mumbai City FC defeated arch-rivals FC Pune City 2-0 to record their first win in the Indian Super League here on Friday. For Mumbai, Modou Sougou (25th minute) and Rafael Bastos (45th minute on penalty) were on target. Mumbai after their first win are now placed sixth with three points from as many games while Pune are currently ninth with a point from two games. Telugu Titans rode on a solid defensive performance by Vishal Bhardwaj and Abozar Mighani to beat defending champions Patna Pirates 35-31 in Vivo Pro Kabaddi Season VI on Friday. Both the defenders combined to score 11 tackle points and kept Patna's star man Pardeep Narwal to ensure the Titans' third win of the season. With Pardeep misfiring and their defence faltering, Patna suffered their second defeat. Manjeet and Vijay together score 16 raid points for Patna but it wasn't enough. Skipper Yuvraj Walmiki inspired Central Railway to a fluent 5-2 win over Union Bank of India in the 14th PMC Bank All India Guru Tegh Bahadur hockey tournament Friday. Klopp says Nations League akin to opera overdose
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has once more criticised the Nations League, comparing the tournament to watching opera every night or having world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua box week in week out.
