Bihar thrash Manipur, inch closer to quarters
Bihar thrashed Manipur by eight wickets to record their sixth win and inch closer to the quarterfinal berth in the Vijay Hazare Trophy domestic one-dayers here Thursday. Chasing a paltry 173, Bihar cruised to the target in 29.1 overs with Babul Kumar (100 not out from 95 balls; 15x4, 1x6) and MD Rahmatullah (50 not out from 48 balls; 8x4) steering their innings in a plate group fixture. Manjit Singh sets sight on World Championships
Middle distance runner and men's 800m Asian Games champion Manjit Singh wants to show his mettle with a podium finish at next year's World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. "(My) next target is the Asian Athletics Championships and the World Athletics Championships in 2019. Lobo expects India to reach semis in hockey World Cup
Dronacharya award-winning hockey coach Clarence Lobo expects the Indian team to reach the semi-finals of the FIH men's World Cup, to be held in Bhubaneshwar later this year. "I am sure that they (the Indian men's team) will enter the semi-finals. Once they enter the semis then it is anybody's game. They will enter the semis because we have got a fantastic team and have got a good coach," Lobo told reporters here. BCCI audio broadcast rights bagged by Sports Flashes
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a partnership with the multi-sports application - Sports Flashes, to broadcast live audio feeds of cricket matches. Live audio feed will start with the India - West Indies series on October 4.This is the first instance in Indian cricket history when matches will be broadcast live around the world for the global cricket audience on radio. Three-time Olympic gold medal winning hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr. is critical after being admitted to a hospital here due to difficulty in breathing. The legendary centre-forward, who is 94, is being treated at the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) of the PGI Hospital and his condition was described as critical by the doctors attending to him. A doctor told PTI on Thursday that an endotracheal tube has been inserted into his trachea. "The purpose of endotracheal intubation is to permit air to pass freely to and fro from the lungs," the doctor said. "He is on ventilator right now and is being monitored every four hours," he added.
