Asia Cup U-19: Sabir Khan to replace injured Yatin Mangwani
Sabir Khan will be replacing injured player Yatin Mangwani in India under-19 squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Friday."The All-India Junior Selection Committee has named Sabir Khan as Yatin Mangwani's replacement in India's U19 squad for the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup to be held in Dhaka from 29th September to 7th October 2018," the board said in a statement.Mangwani suffered a stress fracture in the recently concluded U19 Quadrangular Series held in Lucknow and has been ruled out of the tournament.The tournament will be held in Dhaka from September 29 to October 7 this year.India U19 Squad for Asia Cup: Pavan Shah (Captain), Devdutt Padikkal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat (wicket-keeper), Yash Rathod, Ayush Badoni, Nehal Wadhera, Prab Simran Singh (wicket-keeper), Siddharth Desai, Harsh Tyagi, Ajay Dev Goud, Mohit Jangra, Sameer Choudhary, Rajesh Mohanty, Sabir Khan.
Women's boxing world championships from Nov 15 in Delhi
The World Women's Boxing Championships, to be hosted by India after more than a decade, will be held from November 15 in the national capital, a top official of the international body said Friday. The teams will have to be here by November 13, with the competition starting a couple of days later. "The AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships will be held in New Delhi in November 13-25," an official of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) told PTI. The marquee tournament was last held in India in 2006 and remains the best for the country in terms of performance. India had topped the medal tally with four gold, three silver and one bronze medal. The celebrated M C Mary Kom, who has been nicknamed 'Magnificent Mary' by the AIBA, will be gunning for a sixth world title at the event which would conclude with the finals on November 24. Rahul Dravid, the last captain to lead India to a series win in England, says the current side faced unusually tough conditions in the recently concluded five-match rubber and the batsmen must prepare better before embarking on the next English tour. "Lets just be honest first. The conditions in England were not easy for batting. I think batsmen of both teams struggled. If you take out Virat Kohli from the equation, it was not an easy series for the batsmen. I have played in England quite a bit, the conditions can be tough but it is rare to find five Test matches which had conditions as tough as the one they found," Dravid said in response to a PTI query here on Friday. 'Tweak' in selection policy kept Asiad gold medallist out of national team for year: Jaspal Rana
India's junior shooting coach Jaspal Rana has claimed that a "tweak" in selection policy kept 16-year-old Asian Games gold-medallist Saurabh Chaudhary out of the national team for one year. Chaudhary, the son of a farmer from Kalina village in Meerut, went on to win the gold medal beating a field of multiple world and Olympic champions in Palembang, Indonesia, in the process becoming India's youngest shooter to win gold at Asian Games. "He was out of the national team for one year because the policy was twisted by certain influential people within and outside the NRAI (National Rifle Association of India)," the Jaspal told PTI in an interview. Manchester City's record goalscorer Sergio Aguero extended his stay with the Premier League champions on Friday, signing a one-year contract extension. The 30-year-old Argentina international -- who broke the record last season and whose tally stands at 204 -- put pen to paper on a deal that will see him through to the end of the 2021 season. Jammu and Kashmir state's summer capital,Srinagar, is set to get an international football stadium with the construction of the sports ground underway at Bakshi stadium under the aegis of National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC). The budget of the project is Rs. 50 crore.The construction of the stadium that will be hosting International Football Premier Leagues and tournaments will be completed next year. Srikanth's campaign ends after another defeat to Momota
India's Kidambi Srikanth Friday lost to reigning world champion Kento Momota in the quarterfinals, ending his campaign at the USD one million China Open BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament here. The 24-year-old Indian, who had a 3-7 head-to-head record against Momota, couldn't find a chink in the Japanese's armour, losing 9-21 11-21 to the world No.2 in a lop-sided contest. Srikanth had lost to Momota at the Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open in June and July respectively. The Indian was no match for Momota, who has been in sensational form since making a comeback after serving a one year ban for visiting an illegal casino. Srikanth lagged 1-5 initially. He recovered to 4-5 with three straight points but couldn't put up a fight as Momota surged to a huge 19-6 lead before pocketing the first game. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) lifted a ban on Russia's anti-doping agency, paving the way for Russian athletes to return to competition but also sparking claims of "treachery" and "dark shadows" cast over the fight against drugs in sport. "Today, the great majority of WADA's Executive Committee decided to reinstate RUSADA as compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code subject to strict conditions," WADA president Craig Reedie said on Thursday. Reedie said the decision "provides a clear timeline by which WADA must be given access to the former Moscow laboratory data and samples". He said if the commitment was not met, WADA would reinstate the ban on the Russian anti-doping agency.
