Ben Stokes added to England squad for third Test

All-rounder Ben Stokes, who was deemed not guilty of affray charges by a Bristol court on Tuesday, has subsequently been added to the England squad for the third Test starting on Saturday in Nottingham. Owing to this court case, Stokes had missed the second Test at Lord's, which England won by an innings and 159 runs to take a 2-0 series' lead. The all-rounder had played a handsome role in the first Test in Birmingham. He had a match haul of 6-113 across two innings as India lost by 31 runs. The England team management now face a selection headache, as his replacement Chris Woakes had scored a maiden Test hundred at Lord's as also taking four wickets in the match. Meanwhile, the ECB will set up a Cricket Discipline Commission that will take stock of Stokes' involvement in this physical altercation outside a Bristol pub last year. He, along with teammate Alex Hales, could yet be fined and suspended, however it will be some time before that conclusion can be reached. England squad: Joe .

With two points for a win guaranteed in rapid games, both Nakamura and Mamedyarov won two games on the final day besides a draw while Caruana could only get two draws that relegated him to the second spot. Caruana ended on 11 points, a couple of points ahead of Sergey Karjakin of Russia, Levon Aronian of Armenia and Leinier Dominguez Perez .

Post-Ronaldo Real Madrid gets 1st test in UEFA Super Cup

Following the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid gets its first test against crosstown rival Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. So far, Madrid hasn't resorted to a "galacticos" spending spree to bring in marquee names at astronomical prices. Coach Julen Lopetegui seems to be relying on the talent already at his disposal and a new tactical system. The club, though, has made a few significant purchases, including goalkeeper Thibault Courtois from Chelsea. Now, the team that was built around Ronaldo and which has won three straight Champions League titles comes up against a strong Atletico team that won the Europa League and finished ahead of Madrid in the Spanish league. Here are a few things to watch out for in Wednesday's match in Tallinn, Estonia: NEW ERA Ronaldo moved to Juventus in a 112 million euro ($131 million) deal and Zidane resigned. Those changes have given new impetus to forwards Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio to step up and .

Indian batting has been naive, irresponsible and stupid: Boycott

Former England opener Geoffrey Boycott was scathing in his criticism of the Indian team, terming the visitors' batting performance "naive, irresponsible and bordering on stupidity". "So far, the Indian players have let themselves and their supporters down. The batting has been so naive and irresponsible, it has bordered on stupidity. Wafting drives at tempting outswingers is thoughtless," Boycott wrote in his column for the 'Daily Telegraph'. Boycott, who had famously coined the moniker 'Prince of Calcutta' for former India captain Sourav Ganguly, felt that the Indian batsmen lack application while trying to flick outswingers, referring to Murali Vijay's mode of dismissals. "Trying to work straight outswingers through midwicket and then being surprised when you get bowled or nick it to the slips is brainless. Playing the ball on the up in front of your pad is a no-no," wrote Boycott. As has been the common refrain, Boycott also opined that Indian batsmen have not done their homework ..

The beleaguered Indian team today received a boost with pacer Jasprit Bumrah being declared fit and available for selection for the third Test against England starting in Nottingham on Saturday. England lead the five-match series 2-0 after convincing wins. Bumrah had injured his left hand whilst playing in the first game of the long tour against Ireland in Dublin back in June. He didn't feature in the T20Is or ODIs against England since then, and also missed the first two Tests thanks to a fracture on his left thumb. He underwent surgery in Leeds on July 4 and underwent rehabilitation back in India, before being called up for the Test series. Throughout the second leg of this tour, Bumrah has been keenly working in the nets, from Chelmsford, to Birmingham, to Lords, although the team management was waiting for the plaster to come off finally. During one of the net sessions while the rain intervened during the second Test, Bumrah was seen bowling without his plaster and thus his ...
