More than 150 South Korean athletes, journalists and officials left for Pyongyang today for a football tournament, in the latest effort at sports diplomacy between the neighbours. The two Koreas, who agreed to increase sports exchanges at a landmark summit between the South's President Moon Jae-in and the North's leader Kim Jong Un in April, held a friendly basketball match in Pyongyang last month. The delegation - including 84 young footballers - will travel by bus to Pyongyang for their 10-day visit, marking the first overland trip by South Korean civilians to the North's capital in nearly seven years. Top cueists for CCI Billiards
Top 16 cueists of the country have been invited to take part in the CCI Billiards Classic to be played at the Cricket Club of India's Wilson Jones Billiards Room from August 13-28. This will be a time-format tournament and the top cueists will have to contend with 16 leading players from Mumbai, including Maharashtras top-four ranked billiards players and Maharashtra Junior No.1 ranked billiards player, said a media release today. The tournament offers a total prize fund of Rs 3.8 lakh with the champion standing to pocket the top prize of Rs 125,000 while the runner-up would earn a prize award of Rs 75,000. The two losing semi-finalists would receive Rs 40,000 each and the four losing quarter-finalists Rs 20,000 each. In addition, a cash prize of Rs 10,000 will be presented to the player with the highest break and another sum of Rs 10,000 to the player with maximum number of double century breaks, the release added.

Peng Shuai has denied wrongdoing and vowed to return to tennis after the Chinese star was banned for six months and fined USD 10,000 for attempting to force her doubles partner to withdraw from Wimbledon. The 32-year-old, a two-time Grand Slam winner in women's doubles, was punished on Wednesday by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), the game's anti-corruption body. It said that Peng "used coercion and offered the possibility of financial reward" to convince her doubles partner to pull out of Wimbledon in 2017 after the sign-in deadline so that she could swap partners. Peng, the number one doubles player in February 2014, had the "offer" rebuffed and failed to play doubles at the prestigious tournament. But that did not stop the TIU banning the veteran for six months, with three suspended, meaning she is not eligible to play until November 8.
