Athletics continued to be India's achilles' heel in its anti-doping campaign, accounting for 21 of the 71 positive tests recorded by the National Anti-Doping Agency in the last one year, according to the latest WADA report. According to the report, NADA tested 3174 urine and blood samples during the last year which showed 71 Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF), which indicates the number of positive tests. There were 9 Atypical Findings (ATF), samples that were found suspicious and possibly required further investigations, as per the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Thailand's soccer boys prepare to ordain as Buddhist novices

The young soccer teammates and their coach who were trapped in a Thai cave have attended a Buddhist ceremony as they prepare to be ordained to become Buddhist novices and monks. Eleven of the boys and the coach prayed to ancient relics and offered drinks and desserts placed in gilded bowls to spirits in a ceremony Tuesday at a temple in northern Thailand. Parchon Pratsakul, governor of Chiang Rai province, says the boys will ordain to become Buddhist novices Wednesday, while the 25-year-old coach will ordain as a monk. The 12th team member who was trapped in the cave won't take part because he isn't Buddhist. Buddhist males in predominantly Buddhist Thailand are traditionally expected to ordain and enter the monkhood, often as novices, at some point in their lives.

Bordeaux block Malcom move to Roma after late Barcelona

Bordeaux have blocked the transfer of Brazilian winger Malcom to Roma after a last-minute bid for the player from Barcelona, said a source from the French club on Monday. "There has been an approach from Barca," the source confirmed, after Bordeaux had reached an agreement earlier in the day to sell Malcom to Italian giants Roma. The 21-year-old had been expected to arrive in Rome on Monday night for a medical on Tuesday before joining his future teammates on their pre-season tour of the United States the following day, but had his flight cancelled by the Ligue 1 outfit at the last moment. Barcelona made contact with Bordeaux following the failure to sign Brazil international Willian from Chelsea and, according to Italian media reports, made a bid larger than the reported fee of 38 million euros ($44.4 million) struck with Roma. Malcom had been a reported target for several European clubs including Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham, but English clubs may have been put off ...

Hot fuss: two years out, fears linger over Tokyo's toasty Olympics

With two years to go before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, organisers finally appear to have things under control -- although serious concerns remain over Japan's deadly summer heat. As Tokyo staged countdown events in roasting temperatures across the Japanese capital Tuesday, officials insist they are firmly on track for the Games, which will open on July 24, 2020, following a calamitous start to their preparations. But despite fears over the searing heat and the political and financial rows that have plagued the build-up to the city's first Olympics in over half a century, Japan's athletes can't wait to compete at a home Games. "There is an awful lot of work to do in the next two years obviously but I'm already getting goosebumps," Rio Olympic swimming bronze medallist Daiya Seto told AFP. "I'm incredibly lucky to be able to race at an Olympics in Japan -- I'm determined to seize the opportunity." World champion climber Akiyo Noguchi vowed that nothing but the Olympic title will do for ...

City's Sane determined after Germany World Cup snub

Leroy Sane has thanked Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for helping him overcome his World Cup heartbreak. The City forward, who was a key member of Guardiola's Premier League title-winning side last season, was left stunned by Germany coach Joachim Low's decision to omit him from the squad for the tournament in Russia. It was a move which backfired for Low after his side failed to exit the group stages, leaving many to question the wisdom of leaving out a player who scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists in a campaign which ended with him being named as the Football Association young player of the year. Yet with the Euro 2020 qualifiers on the horizon, Sane, who refused to comment on the Mezut Ozil racism scandal which has engulfed German football, believes he will have a chance to resurrect his international career under Guardiola's guidance. "Yes, Pep had a chat with me after it happened," said Sane, when asked about his shock omission from Germany's squad. "We talked about ..
