Djokovic beats Anderson; clinches fourth Wimbledon title

Serbian Tennis ace Novak Djokovic on Sunday defeated South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-3) to clinch his fourth Wimbledon title here.This is Djokovic's first Grand Slam victory in more than two years.Anderson saw a nervous start, striking a forehand long at 30/30 and then double faulting at break point to gift Djokovic the first game.Djokovic won 12 of the first 15 points to seize early control of the final.Although Anderson looked more competitive in the game, Djokovic kept the upper hand in longer rallies and kept his opponent on the backfoot with changes in groundstroke pace.With 13 major titles, Djokovic now stands in fourth place in the all-time Grand Slam singles final list, behind Roger Federer (20), Rafael Nadal (17) and Pete Sampras (14).On a related note, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton along with British Prime Minister Theresa May were among the guests at the final match.

Djokovic wins fourth Wimbledon title and 13th major

Novak Djokovic raced to a fourth Wimbledon title and 13th career Grand Slam crown today when he defeated a battling but exhausted Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7/3). World number 21 Djokovic added the 2018 title to his wins in 2011, 2014 and 2015 as he became the lowest-ranked champion since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001. It also took his Slam total to within one of Pete Sampras and just four behind the 17 of Rafael Nadal who he defeated in the semi-finals. Anderson, the eighth seed, was the first South African in the final in 97 years and was bidding to become the first man from his country to be crowned Wimbledon champion. However, he had spent 21 hours on court getting to the final and that marathon effort came back to haunt him at the worst possible time despite a late rally when he had five set points in the third set. Indian junior men's hockey team lost 1-3 to Great Britain in its second match of the U-23 five-nation tournament here today. The Indians, who had earlier defeated Ireland 5-0, however, failed to match up to their British opponents. After a barren first quarter, Great Britain took the lead through Tim Nurse in the 19th minute. Great Britain extended its lead in the 34th minute through Duncan Scott before pumping in another in the 50th minute through Cameron Gold. Indian junior women's hockey team pipped Great Britain 1-0 in its second match to continue its unbeaten run at the U-23 six-nation tournament here today. In its first match, India had beaten Ireland 4-1. The Indians displayed strong defence to keep Great Britain at bay. India attacked with vision to create chances through penalty corners and from one of those Sangita Kumari scored to hand her side the winner. Teen sensations Manu Bhaker and Anmol Jain claimed the gold medal in mixed 10m air pistol team competition, ending on rousing note India's successful campaign in the 28th Meeting of Shooting Hopes international competition in Plzen, Czech Republic today. Having topped qualification with a score of 763, the duo of Bhaker and Jain shot 476.9 to finish ahead of another Indian pair of Devanshi Rana and Saurabh Chaudhary by 1.2 point. Two 'drug peddlers' caught by youth club members in Punjab

Members of a youth club in a village in Ferozepur district of Punjab today caught two people they said were drug peddlers. Manjinder Singh Bhullar, in-charge of a team formed by the Shaheed Udham Singh Youth Club to track down and catch drug peddlers, said they received information that a few youths were injecting drugs under a railway overbridge near the village. "The members of our club caught the two youths," he said. "One small electronic weighing machine and some cash was recovered from them," he added. The youths were later handed over to police.
