Indian lifter bags bronze medal in junior world championships

Indian lifter Jhilli Dalabehera bagged the bronze medal in the 2018 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships at Tashkent today. Jhilli Dalabehera lifted 167 kg (75 kg + 92 kg) in 48 kg to finish third on the podium, according to Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) secretary general Sahdev Yadav. She is the second woman lifter after Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (in 2013) to win a medal in the Junior World Championships.

14-year-old lad impresses with facile win in 1st race

Fourteen-year-old Chennai lad Mohammed Mukail impressed with a facile win in the first race of the CBR 150R class in the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup in the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship at the MMRT track at Sriperumbudur, near here. Mukail beat his nearest rival Akshay Murali by 17 seconds to underline his skill. The city lad, a fan of former Australian MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner, said he was drawn to the sport after watching MotoGP races in 2011. "After watching MotoGP races I took a liking for motorcycle racing. I liked the way Casey Stoner rode and wanted to become like him," he added. Aditi Ashok carded seven birdies against two bogeys for a 5-under 67 that moved her to tied 22nd from tied 54th at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic here. India's Anirban Lahiri shot a sensational bogey-free nine-under 61 to get to 12-under 128 and stayed on top of the leaderboard at The Greenbrier Classic till Kelly Kraft overtook him by one shot. Commonwealth Chess C'ship participants scammed by organizers

The organisers of the Commonwealth Chess Championship have allegedly cheated the young kids and invited additional participation in exchange of Rs 10,000 each.According to the regulations, there is only one official entry per country in each category, but in this case, 700 participants across 16 categories enrolled in the event and interestingly, 644 players were from India.The open section for commonwealth saw 165 players, out of which only 31 were foreign participants from 7 countries and 134 from India. The top 24 seeds were from India. And there was not a single Grandmaster from any other country.None of the hoards of players who were attracted to this event could achieve the International Master or Grandmasters Norm since the championship did not meet the criteria of having required number of Foreign titled players.All those who participated from India received certification that they have represented India in the Commonwealth championship along with an official India T-shirt. ..

India's ace squash player Dipika Pallikal has been appointed as Asia's representative in the prestigious Athletes Advisory Commission of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
