Raj HC allows govt to build helped in SMS stadium to facilitate PM's landing

The Rajasthan High Court has allowed the state government to build a helipad at the tennis court of Sawai Man Singh Stadium here to facilitate the landing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit here on Saturday. A division bench headed by Justice K S Jhaveri gave the permission to the government on its plea for the same. Modi is scheduled to address a gathering on July 7 at 'Amrudon Ka Bagh' off Janpath here in Jaipur. The bench, however, cautioned the government to ensure no damage is caused top stadium while building the helipad. It also directed the government to restore the stadium if any damage is caused to it in building the helipad. The government had approached the court for permission to build the helipad because the court had earlier in September 2001 stopped all other activities other than sports in the stadium. After the court granted the permission, two choppers of Indian Air Force were seen landing at the stadium on trial run.

India A batters struggle against Windies pace, all out for 133

After a dominant batting show in the limited overs series, the young India A batsmen struggled to tackle the red ball as they were out for a paltry 133 against West Indies on the opening day of the four-day 'Test', here today. Prithvi Shaw, in preceding tri-series, perished in the first ball of the match, bowled by Chemar Holder, and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal too suffered a golden duck. Captain Karun Nair fell for 20 and if it was not for a 60-run stand between Hanuma Vihari (37) and all-rounder Vijay Shankar (34), the Indian side would have been in a more embarrassing position. The young turks are playing in the challenging English conditions with red duke ball for the first time in their career. Pacers Holder (4/57) and Sherman Lewis (4/35) shared eight wickets between them while Raymon Rifer scalped two Indian batsmen. In reply, West Indies were 99 for three in -- overs with 18 more overs remaining in day's play. Opener Chandrapaul Hemraj scored 42 runs before being ...

West Indies dismiss Bangladesh for record low of 43

Kemar Roach took five wickets as West Indies demolished Bangladesh for 43, their lowest Test total, on the opening morning of the first Test in Antigua on Wednesday. At lunch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, West Indies had reached nine without loss. Bangladesh's pitiful performance was also the second shortest first innings in the 141-year history of Test cricket. At 18.4 overs, it was just one ball longer than Australia's dismissal for 60 off 18.3 overs by England at Nottingham in 2015. Put in to bat on the greenest surface seen in the ten years of Test cricket at the venue, the Bangladeshis were no match for the quality of the West Indies fast bowling. Roach set the rout in motion by claiming the first five wickets for eight runs in just five overs despite appearing to be troubled by a muscular strain behind his right knee. However, it was the visiting batsmen who felt the greatest discomfort with only opener Liton Das reaching double-figures in a performance that once again ...

Shot putter Inderjeet Singh gets 4-year ban for dope violation

The anti-doping disciplinary panel of NADA today handed a four-year suspension to shot putter Inderjeet Singh for failing a dope test prior to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The panel though admitted that NADA and NDTL did not follow the standard WADA norms while collecting the sample, as claimed by Inderjeet, but concluded that the athlete could not prove that he didn't violate anti-doping norms. Inderjeet, who was one of the first athletes to qualify for the Rio Games, was provisionally suspended on July 26, 2016 after both his urine samples showed 'Adverse Analytical Finding' (AAF) for banned performance-enhancing substances -- androsterone and etiocholanolone. The three-member panel concluded that he has violated article 2.1 of anti-doping code. A copy of the verdict is in possession of PTI. "We uphold the violation of article 2.1, resulting in ineligibility of the athlete for a period of four years, commencing from the date of his provisional suspension," the panel ruled. The panel .

Pickford gets the upper hand to vindicate England coach Southgate

Mocked by Belgium's Thibaut Courtois for being too small for a top-class goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford stood tall when England needed a penalty shootout hero to end years of pain from the spot. On just his seventh international appearance, Pickford became the first England stopper in 20 years to save a penalty at a major tournament. With the sides tied at 3-3 in the shootout, the Everton 'keeper leapt to his right and got a strong left hand to Carlos Bacca's strike, putting the Three Lions on course to win a knockout game for the first time since 2006. It was a sweet moment for Pickford, and for his manager Gareth Southgate, whose decision to back the 24-year-old despite his inexperience and leave 75-time capped Joe Hart out of his squad was vindicated. "I don't care if I'm not the biggest keeper," said the 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 metre) tall Pickford. "I've got that power and agility to get around the goal. I'm very good at it." Pickford deserved to have won the game a lot earlier on a ...

England are 'Diernamite!' Press hail end to penalty shootout woe

"Just Diernamite!" screamed the Sun after Eric Dier ended England's penalty hoodoo in Russia, slotting home the decisive spot-kick to beat Colombia and qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals. A bare-chested, grinning Dier was labelled the "Coolest Man in Moscow" by the Daily Mail, who added with a touch of hyperbole: "The explosion of relief must have been heard in space." The Daily Mirror hailed: "Justice as Lions win do-or-Dier shootout" following the 4-3 win on spot-kicks in Moscow. England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford earned rave reviews, with the Sun hailing the "Hand of Jord", harking back back to Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" incident in 1986, when the Argentine put the ball into the net with his hand. The paper revels in being able to at last print: "It's the headline we have waited a lifetime to write... England win on penalties (Yes really!)". The Times announced drily: "Souvenir edition -- commemorating an England penalty shootout win." Colombia are roundly panned for ...

England midfielder Fabian Delph is on his way back to Russia to prepare for Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against Sweden after flying back home to attend the birth of his third child.
