Rashid, Chikka Tied-7th at Thai Open golf
Indian golfer Rashid Khan shot a steady two-under 68 in the second round to move into the Top-10 at the USD 300,000 Thailand Open here today. Rashid, a two-time winner on Asian Tour, had three birdies against one bogey as he was five-under 135 and five shots off the lead in Tied-7th place. Meanwhile, S Chikkarangappa, who was T-2 after the first round, shot even par 70 to slip to T-7 alongside Rashid. Chikka shot even par 70 with two bogeys on front nine, which were made up with two birdies on back nine. Four other Indians, Gaganjeet Bhullar (69-71), Viraj Madappa (71-69), Rahil Gangjee (71-69) and Chiragh Kumar (69-71) made the cut at even par and were T-58th. Argentina's preparations for FIFA World Cup suffered a blow as attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini was ruled out of the 32-nation football tournament after suffering a suspected serious knee injury during training on Friday.

Premier League agree historic winter break
England's Premier League has agreed to introduce a winter break in a historic move to give players a rest during an increasingly crowded season, the Football Association (FA) announced Friday. The break -- which falls short of those taken in mainland European leagues -- will give the 10 Premier League teams a weekend off football in February beginning in the 2019/20 campaign. Haryana govt seeks share of athletes' earnings, withdraws after flak
Inundated with criticism from elite sportspersons, the Haryana government today decided to put on hold a notification that required athletes employed by it to deposit one-third of their earnings from commercial and professional commitments to the state sports council. "I have asked for the relevant file of Sports Department to be shown to me & the notification dated April 30th to be put on hold till further orders," Chief Minister M L Khattar tweeted. "We are proud of the immense contribution by our sportsperson & I assure them of a just consideration of all issues affecting them," he added. His intervention came after athletes reacted sharply to the notification issued by Principal Secretary (Sports and Youth Department), Ashok Khemka. Argentina's Lanzini ruled out of World Cup due to knee injury
West Ham's Argentine midfielder Manuel Lanzini will miss the World Cup after injuring a knee during training in Spain, the Argentine football federation said Friday. "Manuel Lanzini suffered, in today's morning training, the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee," the federation wrote in a Twitter message. The 25-year-old, who had been linked with a summer transfer to Liverpool, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. His injury is a blow for Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli who had counted on Lanzini for his starting line up. Argentina's national team is due to travel to Russia on Saturday for the World Cup. Argentina have been drawn in Group D alongside Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria.
