Brazil's blind footballers see way to their own World Cup glory

Brazil's all-conquering blind footballers kick off their blind world cup campaign Friday knowing they're not only top dogs -- but top targets. The International Blind Sports Federation's Blind Football World Championships began in Madrid Thursday and runs through 17 June. Reigning world and Paralympic champions, the Brazilian team hopes to strike gold yet again, setting the example for their colleagues at the World Cup in Russia. Brazilian star Ricardinho, who already has three Paralympic golds, says he's ready to battle for a back-to-back world title, starting with Friday's game against Mali. "Everybody wants to take down the reigning champs, Brazil, and we want to get the title again. It will be complicated but we're going to fight a lot," he said. Rashid consolidates his position at top of T20I rankings

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan consolidated his position at the top of the ICC T20I Player Rankings after returning with 12 wickets from the just-concluded T20 international series against Bangladesh at Dehradun. The 19-year-old wonder spinner has gained 54 points to finish with 813 points, 80 more than second-placed Shadab Khan of Pakistan. Lyon calls "fake news" on Fekir move to Liverpool

French club Lyon denounced "fake news" Friday amid reports that captain Nabil Fekir's signature for Liverpool in a ?53 million (USD 71 million, 60 million euro) deal was imminent. "In this period of transfers when the slightest rumour is often presented as reality, Lyon would like to underline that only information released on the club's website is reliable," the club said in a statement. I-League team Chennai City Football Club has signed up Australian goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson on a long-term contract. Haryana govt seeks share of athletes' earnings, draws flak

In an unprecedented move, the Haryana government has directed sportspersons employed with it to deposit one-third of their earnings from commercial and professional commitments to the state sports council, drawing sharp criticism from the athletes. "One-third of the income earned by the sportsperson from professional sports or commercial endorsements will be deposited with the Haryana State Sports Council. The money shall be used for the development of sports in the State," said the notification issued by Principal Secretary (Sports and Youth Department), Ashok Khemka.
