Delhi golfer Honey Baisoya secured his second successive win on the PGTI tour with a four-stroke triumph at the inaugural Paramount GolfForeste Delhi - NCR Open Golf Championship here today. The 21-year-old Baisoya followed up his win in Pune last week with an emphatic victory at the the Noida Golf Course after coming up with a determined two-under-70 in the final round to total 11-under-277 for the week. ECB names Ed Smith as national selector
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed former Kent captain-turned journalist Ed Smith as the new national selector of the men's cricket team.The 40-year-old, who has appeared in three Tests for England, will hire a full-time independent England selector to work with him, alongside head coach Trevor Bayliss.Reflecting on Smith's appointment, England cricket chief Andrew Strauss said that he hopes the former Kent skipper would come to the role with fresh ideas and help in implementing the structure that could become world-leading."Ed stood out as an ideal candidate for the role for a number of reasons. Indian boxers' US training trip off due to visa troubles again
The Indian boxers' much-delayed training trip to the acclaimed Michael Johnson Centre in the USA has been cancelled for a second time owing to visa problems. The boxers were originally scheduled to travel there in December in preparation for the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. However, that did not work out because of visa issues. The revised plan was to head to the facility in Texas in May first week. However, that too has fallen apart due to visa problems. "It's not happening, the visa applications have been rejected again. We do have a plan B but even that is not sure at the moment," a top Boxing Federation of India official told PTI. The state-of-the-art centre was founded by four-time Olympic gold-medallist and nine-time world champion Johnson in 2007. This would have been the first training trip to the USA for Indian boxers, who have traditionally altered between Europe and Cuba for preparatory camps. A vital cog in the Indian football team for some time, midfielder Eugeneson Lyngdoh says it must get to play adequate international friendlies against "tougher opponents" if it's to do well in the 2019 Asian Cup. India secured their passage to the continental tournament after a 4-1 drubbing of Macau in Bengaluru last October. The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) today recommended Manika Batra, the country's only quadruple medallist at the Commonwealth Games, for the prestigious Arjuna Award. "We sent her nomination today. With such a strong performance in Gold Coast, it will be very difficult for the (government) committee to ignore her," a TTFI official told PTI. Batra created history in Gold Coast, single-handedly taking India to a maiden team gold before winning a singles gold, another first. The 22-year-old beat world number four and triple Olympic medallist, Feng Tianwei of Singapore, twice in the tournament. She also secured a women's doubles silver alongside Mouma Das and mixed doubles bronze with G Sathiyan. Her next assignment is the World Team Championships in Sweden from April 29.
