India would be aiming to end their losing streak but the task is easier said than done despite the home advantage as they take on defending champions Astana Arlans of Kazakhstan in a World Series of Boxing (WSB) contest in Rohtak tomorrow. The Indian franchise, called the Indian Tigers, lost to Astana Arlans 1-4 in its lung-opener before going down by the same margin to Russia's Patriot Boxing Team. Both the rubbers were away contests and creditable of Kavinder Bisht (52kg) and Sachin Siwach (49kg) to pull off one win each respectively for the team. The Indians would be hoping to make the home advantage count at the National Boxing Academy but pulling off victories would nonetheless be a tall ask against a very strong Kazakh team, whose manager happens to be 2004 Olympic champion and the celebrated Bakhtiyar Artayev. The Indian team comprises the likes of three-time King's Cup gold-medallist K Shyam Kumar (49kg) and India Open gold winner Sanjeet, who lost an evenly-contested debut ...

Kane Williamson's New Zealand-record 18th Test century brightened an otherwise wet and gloomy day two as the hosts tightened their grip on the first Test against England on Friday. Williamson's 102 provided a rare moment of cheer on a truncated day when play was restricted to 23.1 overs with only 54 runs scored. The Black Caps skipper fell after guiding his side to a substantial first innings lead as New Zealand reached 229 for four, 171 runs ahead of England with six wickets in hand. The milestone century, reached with a deft single through the gully off James Anderson, took Williamson one clear of the previous record of 17 he shared with Ross Taylor and the late Martin Crowe. He was still on 100 when the rain swept in for the first time but when play resumed an hour later, after a revised tea break, he added only two more before being trapped in front by Anderson. Williamson's overnight partner Henry Nicholls progressed to 49 not out with BJ Watling on 17 when rain again sent the ...

Thousands of security personnel will be deployed when Karachi hosts the final of the Pakistan Super League on Sunday -- its biggest cricket match in nine years, after a spate of attacks drove away foreign teams. Although some overseas players opted out, authorities have promised head-of-state level security at the National Cricket Stadium when Peshawar Zalmi take on Islamabad United. The Twenty20 match has great significance for Pakistan as it gradually welcomes back international cricket, which ground to a halt after a deadly attack on Sri Lanka's Test team in Lahore in 2009 which killed eight people and injured seven visiting players. As well as the final in Karachi, both eliminators were held in Lahore this week -- a step forward from last year, when only the final was held on Pakistani soil. Karachi will also host three Twenty20 internationals between Pakistan and the West Indies in early April, the first home series involving a Test-level team since 2009. Next year, the Pakistan .

Furious Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt has slammed a proposed shake-up of the competition as a "money-grabbing" exercise that will ruin the century-plus event. The two-time Grand Slam champion said International Tennis Federation (ITF) president David Haggerty should resign if the plan fails to receive a two-thirds majority at the organisation's general meeting in August. The ITF last month unveiled plans for a 25-year, US$3 billion partnership with investment group Kosmos, founded by Barcelona football star Gerard Pique, to revamp the current format. It would see the Davis Cup reduced to a season-ending World Cup of Tennis Finals featuring 18 nations. Currently, it is structured around a 16-nation World Group, contested over four weekends during the year. The remaining countries are then divided into three regional zones. "There are a lot of people who are frustrated by it and see this as a money-grab. It is a money deal," Hewitt, his country's most successful Davis Cup .
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said Friday that Formula One teams have a responsibility to try to overcome their differences over the future of the sport in the face of a threat by Ferrari to quit because of a number of proposed changes. Bernie Ecclestone, who ran F1 for 40 years before being replaced by new owners Liberty Media last year, has raised the possibility that Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne could walk away from F1 and form a breakaway series over Liberty's future vision for the sport. Ferrari is unhappy with Liberty's proposal to simplify engines and redistribute prize money among F1 teams after the current contract with teams expires at the end of 2020. Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene would not comment on the specifics of Marchionne's previous comments at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Friday, but said: "My only suggestion, please take him seriously." Wolff is also taking the possibility of Ferrari walking away seriously. He told Britain's Press ...
