Suggestions for Ranji to be played in 3 groups
Some of the state cricket associations have suggested that the teams in the Ranji Trophy be split into three groups instead of the present four. This was one of the proposals put forward during the one-day Ranji coaches and captains conclave here today, according to a captain who attended the meeting. In the last season, for the first time in its over eight decades-old history, the national cricket tournament was played in four groups instead of the earlier three and Vidharba won their first Ranji crown. "We discussed a few points about scheduling, umpiring and about re-thinking to have three groups in the Ranji Trophy rather than four," the captain told PTI. The contention was that if the Ranji Trophy is played in three groups, the number of games would increase and provide more opportunity to players. Rabada sets up South Africa win
Kagiso Rabada put aside his disciplinary concerns to set up a series-levelling win for South Africa on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia at St George's Park today. South Africa won by six wickets after Rabada's fast bowling ensured they needed to chase a modest 101 runs for victory. Top ranked players chosen for Davis Cup and Fed Cup
The AITA has selected top three boys and girls in singles to represent the country at the upcoming junior Davis Cup and junior Fed Cup competitions, to be held in Kuching, Malaysia. For the Davis Cup, Dev V Javia, Sandeep VM and Krishna Hooda were selected while Udit Gogoi, the fourth-highest ranked player was chosen as a reserve. The competition in the Asia/Oceania Group will begin from April 9. Former Davis Cupper Vishal Uppal will be the coach and captain of the team. For Fed Cup, Tanisha Kashyap, Bhakti Bharat Parwani and Prerna Vichare were the playing members and Mubashira Anjum Shaik was named as a reserve member. Rabada faces new charge
South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, already facing a ban for the remaining two Tests against Australia, was today hit with a new charge in the latest incident of a bad-tempered series. The International Cricket Council announced that Rabada had been charged with a level one offence following a send-off of David Warner after he bowled the Australian batsman on the third day of the second Test at St George's Park yesterday. Rabada attended a hearing convened by match referee Jeff Crowe yesterday regarding a level two charge for making shoulder contact with Steve Smith after dismissing the Australian captain on the first day. Level one offences can incur a fine up to 50 percent of a players' match fee and one or two demerit points, while a player can be fined up to his full match fee and get three or four demerit points for level two offences. India top medal tally at ISSF Shooting World Cup
India topped the medals tally in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup with four gold, one silver and four bronze medals for a total of nine medals in Guadalajara, Mexico.It was India's best show in any of the ISSF events so far.On the final day of the competition, among the three Indian shooters in the fray in the Men's Skeet competition, Smit Singh finished with the score of 116 in qualifying to place 15th.
