Pakistan to play three T20s with West Indies in Karachi

Pakistan's cricket chief on Sunday confirmed three Twenty20 internationals with the West Indies in Karachi early next month, taking a giant step towards reviving international series amid improved security in the country. Pakistan had been a no-go zone for international teams since a 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus which killed eight people and left seven visiting players injured. Since then, Pakistan hosted two Twenty20 and three one-day internationals against Zimbabwe in 2015 but last year's final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), three T20 internationals against a World XI and a T20 international match against Sri Lanka helped convince the West Indies. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said the West Indies have confirmed the series. "It's a good news that West Indies have confirmed three Twenty20 internationals to be played in Karachi on April 1, 2 and 4," Sethi told media in Dubai on the sidelines of the ongoing third edition of the PSL. Rabada restores South African ascendancy in second Test

Kagiso Rabada struck shortly before the close to restore South Africa's ascendancy on the third day of the second Test against Australia at St George's Park on Sunday. Australia were 180 for five in their second innings at the close, a slender lead of 41 runs with five wickets remaining. A magnificent century by AB de Villiers enabled South Africa to take a first innings lead of 139 and Australia lost four wickets before they wiped out the deficit. But Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Marsh shared a fighting fifth wicket partnership of 87 and almost succeeded in taking their team through to the fourth day with at least a glimmer of hope. Then Rabada struck for the third time in the innings. Bowling around the wicket he trapped Khawaja in front of his stumps with a full delivery after the left-hander made 75 off 136 balls. Khawaja and Marsh (39 not out) came together when Australia were 86 for four but batted for more than two hours on a pitch which was largely placid. In contrast to the ...

Ranjane stars in Andheri's victory over North Mumbai

Shubham Ranjane did the star turn with both bat and ball as ARCS Andheri recovered from a poor start to inflict a 23-run defeat on North Mumbai Panthers in the opening game of the inaugural T20 Mumbai League at the Wankhede Stadium here today. Ranjane first rescued his side, which was tottering at 16 for 4, with a 50-ball 65 that helped Andheri recover to amass a challenging total of 164 for 7. Later the Mumbai Ranji Trophy player, who had earlier played limited over cricket for Maharashtra before shifting base, took the scalps of rival captain and Test stalwart Ajinkya Rahane and India's World Cup under-19 winning skipper Prithvi Shaw for 18 runs in 3 overs before limping off the field after being injured while chasing a ball. But there was enough firepower at the disposal of his team which bowled out North Mumbai for 141 in 19.1 overs to emerge victorious. Rahane (28) and Shaw (14) put on 38 for the first wicket, but once both were packed off by Ranjane with 49 on ...

Australia lose three, behind De Villiers-inspired South Africa

Australia lost three second innings wickets and were still behind an AB de Villiers-inspired South Africa at tea on the third day of the second Test at St George's Park on Sunday. Australia were 86 for three in their second innings at tea, still 53 runs behind South Africa's first innings total of 382. De Villiers made a magnificent 126 not out and had good support from the tail as South Africa took a first innings lead of 139, scoring freely before they were all out for 382 shortly before the scheduled lunch break. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, under threat of a suspension which could rule him out of the rest of the four-Test series, made a key breakthrough for South Africa when he bowled David Warner for 13 during a hostile opening spell in which his fastest delivery was timed at 151 kmh. Cameron Bancroft was bowled off an inside edge by Lungi Ngidi for 24 and Smith was caught behind off left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj shortly before tea for 11. It was the third time in four innings ...

Focus on Lanning, Perry as India get ready for Australia test

High on confidence after the triumph in South Africa, Indian women's cricket team will be aiming to put up another stellar show against Australia in the three-match ODI series beginning here tomorrow. The series is a part of the ICC Women's Championship in which India had defeated South Africa in their opening match . Australia boast of a formidable line-up comprising skipper Meg Lanning, all-rounders Ellyse Perry, Elyse Velani, wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy. When the two teams last met, it was a 30-minute mayhem by Harmanpreet Kaur that turned the fortune of the women's cricket in India by 360 degrees. The Mithali Raj is likely to be forever indebted to her deputy Harmanpreet for that knock of 171 in the World Cup semifinals. The women players deservingly got richer after that but Harmanpreet's knock certainly was the catalyst -- a real 'Gamechanger'. "You really can't plan during the first match of the series. They have some really good players like Perry, Lanning and Velani. We have ...

Chandimal gets two-match suspension for over-rate offence

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has been suspended from his team's upcoming two games in the Nidahas T20 Trophy after being found guilty of a "serious over-rate offence" in Saturday's match against Bangladesh here. Chris Broad of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Chandimal's side was ruled to be four overs short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration. "In accordance with Article 2.5.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to serious over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for the first two overs and 20 per cent per additional over their side failed to bowl in the allotted time, while the captain receives two suspension points," said the ICC in a statement. So it is up to us how to find a way to play with their mind and not to give them bowls to their strength and get hit.""We should not allow the batsman to pre-meditate the shot. That's how we are going to try and be successful ...
