Kothari outclassed Mehta by taking the table not long after surviving a five-hour quarter final battle against a fighting Manan Chandra, winning 5-4 to enter the semi finals. It was a surprisingly one-sided semi final contest, especially considering that the 33-year-old Kothari must have been tired after the long-drawn-out quarter final match against Chandra. He got past Mehta 65-35, 88(48)-40, 26-76, 78(78)-5, 75(42)-23, 58(45)-11. Earlier, in a protracted battle between two Petroleum Sports

Painting the Olympics -- with a dash of vodka

The opening ceremony for the Pyeongchang Olympics was so cold that artist Marc Ahr used vodka to stop his paint freezing and when his brush threatened to turn to ice he popped it in his mouth. The ongoing Games in South Korea are the 55-year-old's 15th Olympics in a row, a sequence stretching back to the Winter Games in Albertville, in his native France, in 1992. He has painted opening ceremonies and events at every Olympics since, but even for Ahr, the biting sub-zero temperatures at the curtainraiser on February 9 were something new. "It was minus something, so I even bring some -- shh -- some vodka inside to put in the water, and I could do a little bit of colouring," Ahr said, peering conspiratorially about him should anyone hear that he sneaked alcohol into the opening ceremony. "I put the vodka in a small bottle and put the vodka in my water colours so it doesn't freeze. "It's not the same effect (as with water), but it's nice, it gives it a marble effect. "And my brush -- it's .

Cleared by doctors, freeskier wins silver after head injury

Mathilde Gremaud concedes she does not remember her head slamming onto the slopestyle course during training, or much of anything that happened in the aftermath. Those may sound like telltale signs of someone reeling from concussion symptoms. But the team doctor who checked her out didn't discover any. And less than 36 hours after the wreck, Gremaud was not only competing, but winning a silver medal, as well. "I actually don't remember anything," Gremaud said Saturday, when asked to recall the accident that could've ended her Olympics early. The Swiss skier's story offers a window into the concussion protocol for skiing, which has received far less scrutiny than that in place for, say, the NFL, the U.S. football league that has taken loads of criticism for allowing players to return too quickly after brutal head hits. The International Skiing Federation, which runs all the skiing events at the Olympics, has a 12-page booklet called "Concussion Guidelines" that discusses how to detect .
