Neroca FC blank Indian Arrows 2-0
Neroca FC scored a goal in each half to beat Indian Arrows 2-0 in an entertaining match of the I- League at Tilak Stadium here today. Both the teams played an attacking game but it was Neroca who had more of the ball possession and scoring chances especially in the first half. The Manipur side took the lead through an own goal by Arrows defender Anwar Ali in the 18th minute before Odil Felix Chidi (90+3) found the net in the stoppage time. The win took Neroca's tally to 18 points from nine matches, one point less than East Bengal who are second but have played one more game. Indian Arrows remained on 10 points from 11 matches to be at seventh position. Neroca had scoring chances in the first half but were not successful in finding the net until Arrows defender Anwar committed a mistake to score an own goal in the 18th minute. The much-vaunted Indian top order struggled yet again against quality fast bowling as the visitors stared at a series defeat at the close of fourth day in the second cricket Test against South Africa here today. Chasing 287 for a win, which will be the highest ever at this venue if successful, Murali Vijay (9), Lokesh Rahul (4) and captain Virat Kohli (5) were dismissed cheaply in the final session of day as India were reduced to 35 for 3 from 23 overs at stumps. Debutant Lungi Ngidi grabbed the wickets of Kohli and Rahul while Kagiso Rabada dismissed Vijay to rock the Indian second innings and place South Africa in a commanding position of clinching the three-match series with one Test to go in Johannesburg from January 24. Cheteshwar Pujara and Parthiv Patel were batting on 11 and 5 respectively at the close of the day's play after an extended final session. The visitors now need 252 more runs on the final day tomorrow to win the Test with seven second innings wickets .

WIFAMumbai City FC launch first Baby League in Maha
The Western India Football Association (WIFA) and Mumbai City FC have launched country's first 'Baby League' for aspiring footballers in the age group of 8 to 12 years, setting up 24 developmental centres in Mumbai and Pune. WIFA, the governing body for football in Maharashtra and Mumbai City FC aim to identify and groom future talent through these academies. They will soon extend the Baby League to other parts of the state, a media release here said. The Baby League will see participation of 72 teams and 1,440 players, the release added. "Currently, kids in these age groups get to play only a handful of competitive games in a year. With the AIFF Baby League, we expect them to play many more games every year," said Dinesh Nair, Head of Youth & Grassroots Development for Mumbai City FC. The participating teams and academies will create Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 teams and will play against each other on weekends in a home and away format.

Decision on day-night Test soon: BCCI
BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary today said a decision on hosting the first ever day-night Test in India will be taken soon. "This question has been popping up every now and then (about playing and hosting day-night Test) and rightly so. A decision will be taken sooner than later but not in the context of this Test match against Afghanistan," said Choudhary while announcing the dates of Afghanistan's inaugural Test in Bengaluru from June 14-18. Eight out of the 12 Test playing nations have been part of day-night cricket but not top-ranked India. The first five-day game under lights was played between Australia and New Zealand in 2015. Former BCCI president Anurag Thakur had earlier declared that India will be hosting their first-day night Test against New Zealand in 2016 but that plan did not materialise. Army karate team wins Senior National Karate Championship
A karate team of the Army has emerged the overall 2018 champions of the Senior National Karate Championship held in Kolkata. The Services team defeated defending champions Madhya Pradesh who held the top spot for 12 years in a row. In a statement issued here, Defence spokesperson Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said it was for the first time in the history of National Karate Championship that the Services became the overall champions. The team comprising 11 players bagged three gold and two bronze medals in the individual Kumite event and one gold in the Team Kata event. The two-day event ended on January 14 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
