Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri bogeyed two of his last three holes in the second round to miss the cut at the Genesis Open tournament here. Lahiri ended with rounds of 77-73 and was rather low on the leaderboard at nine-over as the cut fell at even par. Coming back after a three-week break during which he became a first-time father, Lahiri returned for Honda Classic, hoping to find his rhythm back. Meanwhile, Justin Thomas, who is seeking the 10th win of his PGA TOUR career, was at 13 under and has a one-shot lead over playing partner Adam Scott, with Patrick Rodgers and J B Holmes another shot back. Tiger Woods, who was just one shot above the cut line after the second round, has sprung into action and a tie for 14th with a birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie start off the 10th tee in the third round. "I've got some work to do," said Woods, who hoped to get up-and-down to save par at the 17th once play resumes. It will be a longer-than-usual day for all 76 players who made the cut. No one has ..

Yamaguchi has good chance to win All England title: Morten Frost

PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will be once again gunning for their elusive All England title but legendary Dane Morten Frost wants to bet on Japanese Akane Yamaguchi walking away with the coveted silverware at the blue riband event, next month. India will look to break a 18-year-old jinx, when Saina and Sindhu take court at next month's Championship. Frost believes that although there won't be any clear favourites but he is read to stick his neck out for the young Japanese woman. India's last All England champion was current chief national coach Pullela Gopichand in 2001 while the legendary Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to achieve the rare feat in 1980. "It is total unpredictable in women's singles, anything can happen. In all honesty, you have to accept that Tai Tzu Ying has not really performed when it matters. Ethiopian teenager Samuel Tefera broke a 22-year-old indoor world record in the 1,500 meters on Saturday, clocking 3 minutes, 31.04 seconds at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix. The 19-year-old Tefera, who won the indoor world title in the distance in Birmingham last year, went past countryman Yomif Kejelcha as the duo entered the final bend and had the stronger finish to win by 0.54 seconds. He shaved 0.14 off the old mark of 3:31.18 set by Moroccan great Hicham El Guerrouj in February 1997. "I can't believe that," Tefera said. "I'm delighted with the outcome and to have the world record is a special feeling." Kejelcha had said before the meet that he was aiming to break the record, after coming within 0.01 seconds of setting a new world mark in the indoor mile last week at the Millrose Games. El Guerrouj still holds the outdoor world record of 3:26.00, set in 1998. Britain's Laura Muir also pleased the home crowd by beating the national women's indoor record in the mile, which had ...

- Belgium's Elise Mertens claimed the biggest win of her career on Saturday, surprisingly coming from a set down to beat world number three Simona Halep and clinch the Qatar Open. The world number 21 won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, despite being outclassed in the first set, overcoming an eight-minute medical timeout for back pain in the second set, and losing 18 consecutive points at one stage in the match. Wawrinka reaches first final in nearly 2 years in Rotterdam

Three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka reached his first final on Saturday since his comeback a year ago from left knee surgeries. The unseeded Wawrinka beat top-seeded Kei Nishikori 6-2 4-6 6-4 in the ABN AMRO World Tournament semifinals to face Gael Monfils for the title on Sunday. The final is Wawrinka's first since the 2017 French Open, where he last met Monfils in the fourth round. Monfils ousted the other remaining seed, No. 5 Daniil Medvedev, 4-6 6-3 6-4, a week after the Russian beat Monfils in the Sofia semifinals en route to that title. Wawrinka didn't serve as well as Nishikori but outplayed Nishikori from the baseline. And his returns never let the Japanese feel comfortable even after winning the second set. The Swiss broke Nishikori decisively at 5-4 in the third set. Wawrinka will be going for his 17th career title and second in Rotterdam, after winning in 2015. Monfils previously reached the Rotterdam final in 2016. He's going for an eighth career title. He became more

Sarri state of affairs: Chelsea face crunch United clash

Maurizio Sarri will be fighting to save his job when crisis club Chelsea face Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday. Sarri is in danger of being sacked after a dismal first season at Stamford Bridge and crashing out of the FA Cup would push the Italian closer to the axe. Chelsea suffered their heaviest defeat for 28 years when they were thrashed 6-0 at Manchester City last weekend, an indignity that came just weeks after a humiliating 4-0 loss at Bournemouth. Amid claims Sarri has lost the support of his players, the former Napoli boss held clear-the-air talks this week in a bid to convince the squad to stick with him. It is not the first time he has challenged Chelsea's stars after accusing them of being hard to motivate, questioning their mental strength and claiming they don't understand even the basics of his game plan. Sarri's players are said to be unhappy with the Italian's uninspiring training methods and refusal to adapt his tactics to the players he has at ...
