World Cup: Rohit never been bothered about personal landmarks - Gavaskar

Rohit Sharma may have 31 ODI hundreds in his kitty but the Indian skipper is the last person to play the game for personal milestones or gratification, legendary Sunil Gavaskar said ahead of India's all-or-nothing World Cup semi-final against New Zealand on Wednesday. Rohit is currently India's second-highest run-scorer in this competition after Virat Kohli, amassing 503 in nine matches at an average of 55.88 and a strike rate of 121.49, including a ton and three half-centuries. "Well, I don't think Rohit Sharma is going to change his game because that's how he's playing throughout this tournament. He hasn't been bothered about any personal landmarks or milestones," Sunil Gavaskar told 'Star Sports'. "He's looking to get the team up to a flying start because what that does, it puts the opposition under pressure and gives his team the platform from where they can then capitalize on the remaining 40 overs," Gavaskar analysed the Indian skipper's approach. "So in the first 8 -10 overs

India will be known as sporting country in 10-15 years: Sunil Gavaskar

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar on Monday said India will rise as a 'sporting country' in the next 10-15 years, while lauding historic achievements of javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra, chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa and badminton star HS Prannoy. Chopra on Sunday became the first-ever Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships, while Praggnanandhaa last week created history by reaching the World Cup final at 18 years. Prannoy defeated the world No 1 Viktor Axelsen en route to winning a World Championships bronze. Earlier, you would see only a few sports would be talked about, media coverage would only be for those," the Indian cricket icon told the media here after he was revealed as the principal advisor of the Midwicket Stories. "Now all sports have got an outlet and exposure and because of the other sports, we are getting to see the (emergence of) stars." The Little Master was brimming with joy as he witnessed Chopra's triumphant moment of becoming a world champion

We should have 15 players for World Cup from Asia Cup team only: Gavaskar

An annoyed Sunil Gavaskar pleaded with those questioning the Indian team selection for the upcoming Asia Cup and asserted that this 17-man squad should form the nucleus of the 15-member World Cup side. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was a notable omission from the squad, leaving India with only one wrist spinner in Kuldeep Yadav. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are the other spin bowling options in the squad that was named on Monday. Few also wondered why senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is also a very useful batter lower down the order, was not picked in the side. "Yes, there are a few players who will believe that they are lucky. But the team is selected. So don't talk about Ashwin. Stop creating controversy. This is our team now. "If you don't like it, don't watch the matches but stop saying that he should have been picked or another should be there, this is a wrong mindset," Gavaskar told 'Aaj Tak'. Both Jadeja and Axar have also proved their batting abilities across .

WTC Final: Gavaskar says Kohli should be questioned over shot selection

A livid Sunil Gavaskar on Sunday hit out at the Indian players and did not spare Virat Kohli after the team's meek surrender in the World Test Championship final against Australia, saying the batting was "ridiculous". Australia crushed India by 209 runs on the fifth and final day of a game that was mostly dominated by the team from Down Under. "The batting was shambles today. It was just ridiculous what we saw today. Especially the shot making. We saw some ordinary shots yesterday from (Cheteshwar) Pujara, somebody you never expect to play that shot. "Maybe somebody has gone into his head and said 'strike rate, strike rate'. You have not even lasted a session. Eight wickets have not lasted a session? Come on," Gavaskar told broadcaster Star Sports. The result meant India's underwhelming record in ICC tournaments continued. Australian pacer Scott Boland produced a bowling spell of rare quality to get rid of Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over, effectively shutting the door o
