Federalism, a basic feature of Constitution is affected, says TN CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday alleged that federalism, which forms part of the basic structure of the Constitution, is getting affected in recent times. Addressing an event held by the Madras Bar Association here, the chief minister said an independent judiciary, judges and lawyers who act like pillars against any attacks on the Constitution, safeguard and provide sustenance to it. He said: "In recent times, I see that federalism, which is one of the basic features of the Constitution, is getting affected. I am of the view that in several matters such as finances (funds) and education, the characteristic of self-dependence of state governments should be ensured." Judiciary continues to play an important role in safeguarding the Constitution and the rights of the states and the learned judges and lawyers work to protect the Constitution. Electronics poised to become world's largest manufacturing sector: Centre

The electronics industry is poised to become the largest manufacturing sector globally and in India, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S Krishnan said on Saturday. The senior official observed that Tamil Nadu's 'electronics manufacturing cluster' is emerging as the country's frontrunner in global electronics manufacturing. Hailing Tamil as a 'sweet' language, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said it is one of the assets of the country and the world. Two electronics clusters worth Rs 1,112 cr to be set up in TN: Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said two electronics manufacturing clusters worth Rs 1,112 crore, will be set up in Tamil Nadu. Speaking at the inauguration of Zetwerk Electronics' seventh manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, about 55 kms from here, Vaishnaw highlighted that the electronics industry has become the country's second largest export sector, surpassing several traditional industries in the past decade. The new facility, part of a Rs 1,000 crore investment, will produce electronic components for various sectors, including consumer durables and IT hardware, and will serve both domestic and international markets in the future. The Enforcement Directorate Thursday said it has found "multiple irregularities" in the operations of TASMAC that has monopoly over liquor trade in Tamil Nadu, including "manipulation" in the tender processes and "unaccounted" cash transactions worth Rs 1,000 crore through distillery companies. The federal agency claimed in a statement that it got "evidence" suggesting these corrupt practices after it raided the employees, corporate offices of distilleries and plants of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) on March 6.
