Cook's eclectic itineraries: Vada paav with Madhuri; biz meets with Ambanis

Ahead of the opening of Apple's maiden retail store in India, the company's chief executive Tim Cook arrived in the financial capital on Monday. Cook, who has visited India multiple times in the past, is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. On Day one, Cook visited richest Indian Mukesh Ambani's house Antilla for a business meeting and is said to have met other top industrialists, including Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran. Company executives, however, dodged queries on Cook's itineraries during his India tour. On Monday afternoon, Cook himself confirmed his arrival by tweeting a picture with over 100 employees inside the brand's store in BKC business district, which will open for customers on Tuesday. He also managed time to have Wada paav, the much celebrated local snack, with actor Madhuri Dixit at an eatery which is Ambani family's favourite. Cook thanked Dixit for introducing him to the Wada paav at the multi-cuisine joint, terming the food item

Talks with UK government on financial package continue: Tata Steel CEO

Tata Steel is still pursuing its request for the financial package with the UK government, the company's CEO T V Narendran said. Narendran who is also the Managing Director of Tata Steel made the remarks in reply to a question on stance on exiting the UK business. "Tata Steel is still pursuing it (request) with the government there (UK)," he told PTI on the sidelines of an event in the national capital. There has been no conclusion to the request made for a financial package, he said. India-headquartered Tata Steel owns the UK's largest steelworks at Port Talbot in South Wales and employs around 8,000 people across all its operations in the country. The company had sought 1.5 billion pounds from the UK government to execute its decarbonisation plans. However, the British government earlier this year made a counter offer which was much lower to the company's expectations. Speaking to PTI, Narendran had said that Tata Steel cannot see its future in the UK without the support of th

Regressive changes in service condition by Air India, says pilots' bodies

Pilots' bodies at Tata Group-owned Air India have accused the airline management of making unilaterally "rapid" and "regressive" changes in the service conditions of pilots. In a letter to Air India Chief Human Resources Officer Suresh Dutt Tripathi on Tuesday, Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) and Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) also stated that "all unilateral violations of their rights and service agreements are creating industrial unrest and shattering employee confidence in the current management". The communication comes amid Air India reducing drastically the annual limit of privilege leave accumulation to 60 days from 300 days earlier, as per a source. IPG represents the wide-body aircraft pilots at the airline while ICPA represents pilots who operate the narrow-body fleet of Air India. "To help the company, the unions have supported you in good faith for over a year. But still, we are being fed the same non-committal, bidding-for-time excuses while rapid and regressive
