Making self-driving cars safer on roads

While we wait for self-driving cars to become a part of our everyday reality, safety issues could bring the autonomous dream to a screeching halt. A recent study tackles a long-standing problem for autonomous vehicle developersAs the result of the study, the researchers' new mathematical method is able to identify anomalies or bugs in the system before the car hits the road.Perception algorithms are based on convolutional neural networks, powered by machine learning, a type of deep learning. These algorithms are notoriously difficult to test, as we do not fully understand how they make their predictions. This can lead to devastating consequences in safety-critical systems like autonomous vehicles."Making perception algorithms robust is one of the foremost challenges for autonomous systems," said Anand Balakrishnan, lead author of the study."Using this method, developers can narrow in on errors in the perception algorithms much faster and use this information to further train the ...

Facebook beefs up political ad rules ahead of EU election

Facebook said Friday it's further tightening up requirements for European Union political advertising, in its latest efforts to prevent foreign interference and increase transparency ahead of bloc-wide voting in May. The social media giant said it will require political advertisers to confirm they are located in an EU country. That's on top of a previously announced requirement that ad buyers must confirm their identities. Ads that don't comply will be blocked starting in mid-April. Silicon Valley tech companies are facing rising pressure from EU authorities to do more to prevent their platforms being used by outside groups to meddle in elections. EU officials in January singled out Russia as a prime source of disinformation in Europe. Hundreds of millions of people are set to vote for more than 700 EU parliamentary lawmakers on May 23-26. Facebook, which also owns Instagram and WhatsApp, will ask ad buyers to submit documents and will use technical checks to verify their identity and

Dhanbad, the coal capital of India is the mineral-rich city of Jharkhand, that scored 95.3 per cent in Opensignal's, mobile analytics company, latest analysis. Becoming the number one city with the highest 4G availability in India.Opensignal looked fifty largest cities of India's and analyzed them by their 4G availability, based on a combined score for all operators that operate a 4G network in those metros. Dhanbad scored 95.3 per cent in Opensignal's measurements - one of only two cities to pass the 95 per cent mark. The other was Ranchi, Dhanbad's neighbouring city and the state capital of Jharkhand, which scored 95 per cent in 4G availability."Opensignal's 4G availability metric is not a measure of coverage or the geographic extent of a network. It measures what proportion of time our users with a 4G device and subscription can get a network connection, in the places they most commonly visit. So when we say an operator has a 4G availability score of 95 per cent, that means our LTE
