Y S Sharmila, founder of YSR Telangana Party, is likely to join the Congress here Thursday morning, sources said. Sharmila arrived here on Wednesday night. The Congress said a "very eminent personality" will join the party at 10.30 AM, Thursday at AICC headquarters here. Asked whether she is joining the Congress on January 4, Sharmila told reporters upon her arrival at the Delhi airport, "Yes, looks like it". On what role she would play in the party, she said "we will know tomorrow". After chairing her party meeting on Tuesday in Hyderabad, Sharmila had said she and other leaders will meet the top leadership of the Congress including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi and make a "crucial" announcement in Delhi. The Telangana government will extend necessary support for Amara Raja group's advanced chemistry cell gigafactory and battery pack assembly unit being set up in Mahbubnagar district, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said on Wednesday. The Amara Raja team met the CM here regarding their landmark Giga Corridor project and ePositive Energy Labs in Telangana, an official release said. Officials to get DPRs done for revised Airport Metro alignment: T'gana CM

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited officials to quickly get the traffic studies and detailed project reports done for the revised Airport Metro alignment via the Old City and from LB Nagar here. Reddy, who reviewed Phase-II of Hyderabad Metro Rail proposals, on Tuesday directed that the Airport Metro plan of the earlier (BRS) government from Raidurg to Shamshabad Airport (31 km; proposed to cost Rs 6,250 crore) shall be kept on hold as already a very wide Outer Ring Road (ORR) is available, according to an official release. LIC receives GST demand notice of Rs 116 crore for Telangana state

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Tuesday said tax authorities have slapped a demand notice of about Rs 116 crore on it for short payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) for 2017-18. The company has received communication/demand order for interest and penalty for Telangana state on January 2, LIC said in a regulatory filing. The corporation shall file an appeal before Joint Commissioner (ST), Hyderabad Rural Division against the said order within the prescribed timelines, it said. There is no material impact on financials, operations or other activities of the corporation, it added. The demand for Telangana came a day after LIC on Monday received a similar notice demanding about Rs 806 crore for short payment of GST for 2017-18 along with interest and penalty for Maharashtra.

Truckers' protest: Long queues at fuel pumps in T'gana amid shortage fear

Long queues were witnessed at petrol pumps in several parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday as people thronged them fearing shortage of fuel amid a protest by truck drivers against a provision in the new penal law on hit-and-run accident cases involving motorists. As a large number of motorists gathered at the fuel outlets for petrol and diesel, the queues spilled over to the main roads, resulting in traffic jams at several places for some time, though it was brought under control by evening, police officials said. "(Fuel) availability is there. People are apprehensive that due to the agitation by truck drivers, it may not be available and they are going to petrol pumps in large numbers, following which queues were formed and subsequently spilled over to the roads resulting in traffic jams initially," a senior police official said. Tata Tech to provide skill development training for Telangana students

Tata Technologies has come forward to provide job-oriented industrial skill development training for students in Telangana at a proposed cost between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore, the state government said on Saturday. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who held a meeting with representatives of Tata Technologies here, discussed how to provide modern technology and train the youth to get more employment opportunities, a release from CMO said. The chief minister felt the need for introduction of modern courses in all government ITI (industrial training institute) colleges. Cyber crimes push overall crime rate in Telangana by 9% in 2023: DGP

The overall crime rate in Telangana has increased by nearly nine per cent in 2023 compared to the previous year, mainly because of a 17.6 per cent jump in cyber crime, Director General of Police Ravi Gupta said on Friday. Addressing an annual press conference here, the official said 2023 has been an incident-free year compared to the previous one, though it was quite hectic for the police due to the legislative assembly polls held recently. A total of 2.13 lakh cases were registered by the police during the current year -- up by 8.97 per cent compared to last year, while 16,339 cyber crime cases were booked in 2023 as against 13,895 last year, which is an increase of 17.59 per cent, a press release said. During this year, the value of total property lost was Rs 151.78 crore, of which goods worth Rs 80.81 crore (53.82 per cent) were recovered, as compared to 50 per cent last year, the release said. Apple supplier Foxconn officials call on CM Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad

A delegation of Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Foxconn on Tuesday met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy who assured them the required support for the operations of its manufacturing centre at Kongara Kalan near here. A press release from the CMO said the state government will also extend all necessary support to upcoming projects which are being undertaken by Foxconn. Foxconn Group, which will be investing USD 550 million in Telangana, entered into an agreement with the state government in March this year assuring them to create one lakh jobs by setting up an electronics manufacturing unit. Telangana's total debt pegged at Rs 6.71 trillion by end of FY 24

Telangana will have an outstanding debt of Rs 6,71,757 crore, including non-guaranteed loans of corporations or institutions by the end of FY 24 against Rs Rs 72,658 crore in 2014, the state government said. Telangana State Finances-White Paper was tabled by the government in the Legislative Assembly. The debt servicing burden of monies which are borrowed on the budget and off-budget has increased enormously and is consuming 34 per cent of the state's revenue receipts while the salaries and pensions of employees consume another 35 per cent of the state revenue receipts, a state government document said on Wednesday. The total debt on the books of the State, guaranteed and serviced by the State, guaranteed but not serviced by the State, and not guaranteed and serviced by the institutions is Rs 6,71,757 crores,' it said. Further, as per budget estimates for FY 2023-24, the debt under FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2003) is estimated to increase to Rs. 3,89,673
