Every passenger gets 55 per cent concession on train journeys, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said regarding demands to restore pre-Covid fare concessions for senior citizens and media persons. Without giving any direct reply to questions by media persons on the restoration of concessions, Vaishnaw said, "The Indian Railway is already offering 55 per cent concession on train fares to every train passenger. Vaishnaw was in Ahmedabad to review the progress of the ongoing bullet train project among other things. Before the COVID-19 lockdown imposed in March 2020, the Railways offered 50 per cent concession on train fares to senior citizens and government-accredited journalists. Railway operations were completely shut down during the lockdown but when its full-fledged resumption in June 2022, the Railway Ministry didn't restore these concessions and since then the issue has been raised on various platforms, including in both houses of parliament. Two coaches of Patalkot Express train catch fire in Agra, 9 injured

Two coaches of Patalkot Express train caught fire in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday afternoon, leaving at least nine passengers injured, officials said. The train was heading to Seoni in Madhya Pradesh from Firozpur Cantonment in Punjab when the fire broke out in the third and fourth coaches from the engine around 3.45 pm, they said. Agra Railway Division PRO Prashasti Srivastava said the cause of the fire was not immediately known. "A fire incident in Patalkot Express has been reported between Bhandai and Jajau in NCR (North Central Railway), Agra Division.... Two coaches have been completely burnt. Since two adjacent coaches have also been affected, a total of four coaches have been detached from the train.... The situation is under control," she said. The train left for its destination at 5.50 pm after accommodating the passengers of the affected coaches in other coaches, a railway official said. Several coaches of 12506 North East Express (Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam) derailed near Raghunathpur station in Bihar's Buxar district on Wednesday. Talking to PTI, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway Birendra Kumar said, "Several coaches of Kamakhya-bound North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district around 9.35 pm. No casualty reports so far." Though preliminary reports suggest no casualty so far, there is information that some passengers might have sustained minor injuries, said Kumar. "We have sent rescue and medical teams to the spot. The railways has also issued emergency helpline numbers for passengers. These are 9771449971 (Patna), 8905697493 (Danapur), 8306182542 (Ara), 8306182542 and 7759070004," he said. Talking to reporters, Deepak Kumar, inspector, Railway Police Force, said, "Medical teams have sent to the spot." District administration has also alerted hospitals in Buxar town, he added.

Train timings on Konkan Railway route to change from Jun 10 to Oct 31

The train timings on the Konkan Railway network will be changed from June 10 to October 31 with the introduction of a monsoon timetable on the route to avert possible untoward incidents during heavy rains. The revised timings for trains on the Konkan route from June 10 to October 31 have been published by the railways. As per the new timetable, the Mangaluru Central-Mumbai LTT Matsyagandha Express (12620), will depart from here at 12.45 pm instead of 2.20 pm.
