The Reserve Bank's central board on Friday held a meeting in Udaipur and reviewed global and domestic developments. "The Board assessed the emerging global and domestic economic landscape, including the evolving geopolitical and financial market developments and associated challenges," an official statement from the central bank said. It "assessed" the activities of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), the statement, which comes amid announcements on steps to increase the coverage amount under the scheme, said. ED restores ₹175 cr worth assets to homebuyers; SC praises initiative

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has restored flats, commercial units and plots worth Rs 175 crore to more than 200 homebuyers who had been waiting to get possession of their dream home for over 12 years, the agency said. The unsold inventory of 354 flats, 17 commercial units and two plots belong to a project named Royal Rajvilas (RRV) in Rajasthan's Udaipur. The project's present market value is about Rs 175 crore, the ED said in a statement issued on Tuesday. The case pertains to a money laundering investigation against an accused named Bharat Bomb, apart from some others, who are alleged to have cheated the Syndicate Bank (now Canara Bank) to the tune of Rs 1267.79 crore between 2011 and 2016. The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the release of movie 'Udaipur Files', based on tailor Kanhaiya Lal murder case, that is scheduled to hit the screens tomorrow. A bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela passed the order while dismissing a plea seeking movie's stay, saying the petitioner failed to establish a prima facie case in his favour. "Producer has already spent life earnings in the film and if the movie is not released the balance of convenience will be disturbed. Once a film has been certified by the Board and trial is not likely to be effected by exhibition, we find ourselves unable to agree to prayer for staying release of movie," the bench said. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) dismissed all revision petitions challenging the certification of the controversial film 'Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder', thereby clearing the path for its public release.

The Centre on Friday informed the Delhi High Court that it was withdrawing its decision granting nod to the release of the film 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder', which is scheduled to hit the theatres on August 8. A bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, which was hearing two pleas challenging the Centre's decision allowing the release of the movie, directed the parties to the revision plea to appear before the government on August 4 and make their submissions. The court said no further notice was required to be issued to the parties to appear before the revisional authority, and directed that they should not seek adjournment on their appearance on Monday. "After hearing the parties, appropriate decision as per the law should be taken by the revisional authority on the revision petitions by August 6," the bench said. The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that it has suggested six cuts in the movie "Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder". "In personal opinion any further action than what has been recommended by the competent authority will be infringing Article 19. I have gone through the order," Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi. The top court asked Mehta to place the order on record. Senior advocate Gaurav Bhati, appearing for filmmakers, submitted the Centre was exercising its revisionary jurisdiction and recommended six cuts in film scenes and they have been complied with. The Supreme Court on Thursday clarified it did not pass any written order when it refused to urgently list the plea against the screening of the movie "Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal tailor murder". The clarification from a bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi came after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the accused Mohammed Javed, said a confusion arose due to the bench's remark, "Let the film be released". After Sibal sought the clarification, the bench said it had indeed made the observation but no written order was passed and the court simply denied the request for urgent listing. Villagers beat leopard to death after it attacks 55-yr old man in Udaipur

A leopard was beaten to death by villagers after it attacked a 55-year-old man in Udaipur district of Rajasthan on Friday, police said. The incident occurred in Sayra area in the early hours when the leopard attacked Devaram's cattle outside his house, they said. According to police, when he opened the gate to check on the cattle, the leopard attacked him, leaving him injured. Hearing his cries for help, the villagers quickly gathered and surrounded the area where the leopard was hiding. They started hitting the animal with sticks and other objects, leading to its death on the spot, police said. The injured is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, they added. The area is located about 25 km from where forest and police teams have been searching for a man-eater leopard over the past several days.
