Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls: Congress releases list of 27 candidates

The Congress on Wednesday released its seventh list of 27 candidates for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The list has 11 women, including four replacing candidates previously announced. The party has replaced its Lucknow East candidate, nominating Manoj Tiwari in place of Pankaj Tiwari. The Congress is contesting the state polls with women in focus and has also released a separate manifesto for youth, assuring them of employment opportunities and have laid down a roadmap of how to provide jobs, if elected to power.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said people of Uttar Pradesh are fed up with politics of caste and religion and now they want a change. On a two-day visit here, Baghel told reporters that during his campaign for the Congress candidates in the city, he spoke to many people and all of them echoed the same need for change. "During my door to door campaigning I met people such as rickshaw pullers, vendors, women, and others, they all wanted change. "People are fed up with the caste and religion politics of other parties and are looking forward to Congress," Baghel said. Cong releases third list of another 89 candidates for UP Assembly polls

The Congress on Wednesday released its third list of 89 candidates for Uttar Pradesh elections, reserving 40 per cent seats for women. The party has already declared 255 candidates in all for the state assembly elections. Its first list had 125 candidates and another 41 were declared in the second list. The third list of candidates includes 37 women. The Congress's first and second list had 50 and 16 women, respectively. Some of the women fielded by the Congress include those associated with the anti-CAA protests. The party is contesting UP assembly polls with women in focus and have reserved 40 per cent seats for them. It has also released a separate manifesto for youth, assuring them of employment opportunities and has laid down a roadmap of how to get those jobs, if the party elected to power. Uttar Pradesh elections are being held in seven phases starting February 10 to March 7 and the results will be out on March 10.

Congress leader and former Union minister RPN Singh joins BJP

Congress leader RPN Singh on Tuesday joined the BJP in the presence of the saffron party's Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
