PM Modi set to pay 2-day visit to US beginning Feb 12 for talks with Trump

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to pay a two-day visit to the US beginning February 12 to hold wide-ranging talks with US President Donald Trump, people familiar with the matter said on Monday. As per the plan, Modi will travel to Washington DC after concluding his two-day visit to Paris, they said. It would be the prime minister's first bilateral visit to the US after Trump became president for a second term. Modi will be among a very handful of foreign leaders to travel to Washington DC on a bilateral visit within weeks after the Trump administration came to power for the second term.

India on Friday said it is working with American authorities for the early extradition of Tahawwur Rana, wanted by Indian probe agencies for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The extradition of Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, was cleared by the US Supreme Court a few days ago as it rejected his review petition in the case. "The US Supreme Court on January 21 declined to hear a petition from the accused. We are now working with the US side on procedural issues for early extradition to India of the accused in the Mumbai terror attack," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. Exports to US rises 5.57% to $60 bn during Apr-Dec in FY25 on high demand

The country's exports rose by 5.57 per cent to USD 59.93 billion during April-December this fiscal on account of healthy demand in the American market for domestic goods, according to government data. During December, the shipments increased by 8.49 per cent to USD 7 billion, the data showed. On the other hand, imports during the first nine months of 2024-25 grew by 1.91 per cent to USD 33.4 billion, while in December it was up by 9.88 per cent to USD 3.77 billion. According to experts, going by the trend, the total trade between the two countries will continue to grow in the coming months also. The bilateral trade during April-December 2024-25 stood at USD 93.4 billion, as against USD 94.6 billion between India and China.
