India on Friday said it is looking for "bolder, bigger and a more ambitious" relationship with the US and indicated its readiness to work with the Trump administration to address issues like illegal immigration and trade. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India's approach has always been to address issues in a constructive manner in line with interests of both the countries. Like in many countries, there have been some concerns in India as well over the Trump administration's approach on immigration and tariff. President Trump has already talked about slapping "100 per cent tariffs" on the BRICS grouping, a bloc that includes India as well. We remain in close communication with the US administration and would like to continue to work towards strengthening our economic partnership further, Jaiswal said. India is focused on building "bolder, bigger and a more ambitious" relationship with the US, he added. Referring to India's ongoing dialogue with the US

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said he had brief discussion on the current situation in Bangladesh with newly-appointed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. "Yes, we had a brief discussion on Bangladesh. I don't think it's appropriate that I get into more details," Jaishankar told a group of Indian reporters at a news conference here. The minister was responding to a query on whether treatment of minorities in Bangladesh came up during his meetings with Rubio and Waltz. However, there was no discussion on the attacks on Indian consulates in the US or the threat to Indian diplomats here, Jaishankar said. "I didn't raise those issues on this occasion," he said. "But I do want to say that the attack on our consulate in San Francisco is a very, very serious matter. It is something for which we expect accountability, and we would like to see that people who did it are held responsible," Jaishankar said. Asked about two cases

Nasscom on Wednesday said H-1B visas have nothing to do with immigration issues and instead fill critical skills gap in the US, as the apex industry body asserted that technology will be the "lynchpin" of US economic growth, triggering continued need for "win-win partnerships" between companies on both sides. Nasscom vice president Shivendra Singh slammed "myth" that H-1B workers are cheap labour, replace American workers, or depress US salaries, and sought to assuage concerns around any adverse impact of President Donald Trump's latest moves and orders on flow of Indian tech professionals to the US. Singh told PTI that Nasscom does not have any reason to be less optimistic around Indian IT industry's growth story, given that India and Indian talent have very important role in growth of US economy. He expressed optimism that the developments in the US would not cloud the outlook for the Indian IT industry. Nasscom's comments assume significance given the growing unease around Trump'
India is the second largest overseas market for the US in terms of tourist arrivals and the healthy growth in Indians visiting America is expected to continue in 2025, Brand USA CEO Fred Dixon has said. India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world for US tourism and 2.2 million Indians travelled to America in 2024, which is a 24 per cent growth over the previous years. It's almost a 50 per cent growth since 2019, he told PTI. Asked about the share of Indian tourists among all tourists who visited the US, he said India has climbed each year in terms of its importance to the US in ranking. "In 2024, India has moved to the second largest overseas market. Just behind the UK and just ahead of Germany," said Dixon, who was in Hyderabad for an India sales mission. Given the rapid growth in the last two years, Indians visiting the US is expected to continue in 2025, he said. A record number of visitor visas were issued to Indians last year and five million Indians today hold v

India should respond with equal measures if the newly elected US President Donald Trump would impose higher tariffs on domestic goods, trade experts say. They noted that India has previously implemented retaliatory customs duties on several US products, such as apples, in response to what it deemed "illegal" tariffs imposed by America on certain steel and aluminium products. In December last year, Trump has said India charges "a lot" of tariffs, reiterating his intention to impose reciprocal tariffs in retaliation for what New Delhi will impose on the import of certain American products. "India should respond firmly and in equal measures," economic think tank Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) Founder Ajay Srivastava said. In 2018, when the US taxed Indian steel and aluminium, India retaliated by raising tariffs on 29 US products, recovering equivalent revenue. "This measured response showed India's capability to protect its trade interests while staying balanced," Srivastava
