Evacuated over 3,400 Indian nationals from Iran in 14 flights so far: MEA

India has evacuated over 3,400 Indian nationals from Iran so far in 14 flights under Operation Sindhu launched on June 18 to bring home its citizens amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, according to data shared by the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday. At his weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in response to queries on Operation Sindhu, also said, New Delhi was "assessing the situation on ground" and depending on that a decision would be taken whether to "continue with it or not". On June 24, while India remained "deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability" she welcomed reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Hours after US President Donald Trump's claims of an Iran-Israel ceasefire, the MEA in a statement said "India stands ready to play its part" to resolve the situation and insisted on "dialogue and diplomacy" as the way forward. Jaiswal was asked if India would continue Operation Sindhu .

Trump tries to regain edge in debate over damage done by US strikes on Iran

President Donald Trump on Wednesday rejected an early intelligence assessment that US strikes inflicted only a marginal setback on Iran's nuclear programme, insisting that his country's spies did not have the full picture and defending his own swift conclusion that American bombs and missiles delivered a crushing blow. This was a devastating attack, and it knocked them for a loop, Trump said as his administration scrambled to support his claims, made only hours after the attack, that Iranian nuclear facilities were completely and fully obliterated. The issue dominated Trump's attendance at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's annual summit in the Netherlands, which was otherwise focused on European security. The White House highlighted an Israeli statement that Iran's nuclear efforts were delayed by years, much longer than the few months determined by American intelligence. A spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry also said the facilities has suffered significant damage. Bu

US carrier strike group scheduled for deployment amid tensions in West Asia

The United States' most advanced aircraft carrier leaves Virginia for a regularly scheduled deployment on Tuesday that could position it near Israel after the US inserted itself in Israel's war to destroy Iran's nuclear programme. The US was already planning to deploy the USS Gerald R. Ford when American warplanes bombed three Iranian sites early Sunday to support Israel's goals. Iran retaliated with a limited missile attack on a US military base in Qatar on Monday. But later on Monday, President Donald Trump said on social media that Israel and Iran have agreed to a complete and total ceasefire to be phased in over 24 hours. Trump said on Truth Social that the ceasefire would bring an Official END to the war. The Ford will sail for the European theater of command, which includes waters off Israel's Mediterranean coast. The presence of the aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships gives Trump the option of a third carrier group in the Middle East if needed. The US has been ...

Israel-Iran war has given Tehran leadership role of Muslim world: Mehbooba

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said the conflict between Israel and Iran has elevated Tehran's status to a leadership role for the Muslim world as it forced Washington and Jerusalem on their knees. "I salute the courage and determination of the Iranian leadership, its armed forces and people for fighting this war. They did not have nuclear weapons, the only weapon they had is the belief and the desire for martyrdom," the former chief minister told PTI. "This forced the United States and its lapdog state, Israel, on their knees. Today (US President Donald) Trump is talking about ceasefire. It means that outcome of the war so far has been totally opposite to the expectation of the US and Israel," she said. Mufti said the war has propelled Iran to the leadership role of the Muslim world. "This war has given Iran the leadership role of the Muslim world, although the other Muslim countries did nothing more than lip service. America was in the habit of
