Balrampur Chini aims ₹ 2,000 cr revenue from new bio-plastic plant in UP

Sugar firm Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd expects about Rs 2,000 crore annual revenue from its new bio-plastic plant in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled to be commissioned during the December quarter, a senior company official said. Balrampur Chini Mills, which has 10 sugar factories in Uttar Pradesh, is setting up a Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant of 80,000 tonnes per annum capacity at a cost of more than Rs 3,000 crore. In an interview with PTI, Balrampur Chini Executive Director Avantika Saraogi said, "This new plant will be operational in the third quarter of this fiscal." Asked about the revenue potential from the plant, she said, "We are expecting a revenue of about Rs 2,000 crore at full capacity. Balrampur Chini posted a total revenue of around Rs 6,300 crore during the last fiscal. The full-year impact of this new PLA plant would be reflected in the 2027-28 fiscal. At least 33 people were killed on Wednesday after a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rains caused widespread damage in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Bhadohi, Fatehpur and Budaun, officials said. The officials said at least 16 persons have lost their lives in Bhadohi, nine in Fatehpur, five in Budaun, two in Chandauli and one in Sonbhadra district. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide compensation to people affected by unseasonal rain, thunderstorms and lightning strikes. He said relief work for the affected families should be completed within 24 hours. Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram and Delhi have been categorised as 'exemplars' in the logistics performance ranking for 2025, according to a report released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Wednesday. The logistics index chart, released as part of LEADS (Logistics ease across different states) 2025 report, is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth. 'Exemplars' represent the top-performing states and Union Territories (UTs) that demonstrate sustained excellence across policy, infrastructure, service delivery and regulatory dimensions in the logistics sector, as per the report. LEADS is the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade's (DPIIT) flagship national assessment of logistics performance across states and Union Territories and serves as an important benchmarking and reform tool for improving logistics efficiency across the country. Three arrested from UP in connection with killing of Suvendu's aide

Three persons were arrested from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the killing of Chandranath Rath, an aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, police said on Monday. The accused were apprehended by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the murder that occurred in North 24 Parganas district's Madhyamgram on the night of May 6. Investigators traced digital clues and interstate links in the case, the senior police officer said. The arrested men were identified as Vishal Srivastava, a resident of Pandiyapatti in Bihar's Buxar district, while the two others are from Uttar Pradesh, he said, adding that the investigators suspect that one of them is a sharpshooter. "This is a breakthrough. The investigation indicated that the assailants were from outside West Bengal. 2 drown, 4 missing after boat capsizes in Yamuna in UP's Hamirpur

Six people, including children, went missing and three were rescued after a boat capsized in the Yamuna river here, police said on Thursday. They said the incident took place on Wednesday evening in Kutubpur Patiya hamlet under Bhauli gram panchayat in the Kurara police station area when nine people were returning from a river island after purchasing cucumbers and muskmelons. According to police, the boat lost balance in the middle of the river and capsized around 7 pm. The boatman, Dheeru, managed to rescue three people -- Vishnu, Rinku and Parul. The remaining six -- Akanksha (9), Rani (9), Brijrani (25), Labhyansh (5), Mahesh (6), and Aditya (11) -- are missing, police said. District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal said a search for the missing is being conducted by teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force.

Multi-vehicle collision in UP's Mirzapur leaves 11 dead, probe underway

Eleven people, including children, were killed in a multi-vehicle collision triggered by a suspected brake failure in a truck in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district, police said on Thursday. The accident was reported around 8.30 pm on Wednesday, following which police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations with the help of local residents, Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik said. The collision occurred on a road descending from the Dramandganj valley towards the Lasoda area. According to preliminary findings, a truck travelling downhill is suspected to have suffered a brake failure and rammed into another truck ahead of it. A car travelling between the two trucks got crushed in the impact. In the chain collision that followed, another vehicle was also hit and caught fire, Kaushik said.
