Encounter underway in J-K's Budgam
An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Chathergam village of Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district.The exchange of fire started between the two sides early on Wednesday morning.The operation is currently underway as some terrorists are still hiding in a house.The security forces have launched a joint operation with the local police of the area. UP: India, Russia conduct joint military exercise
India and Russia conducted joint military exercise, Indra 2018 in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on Tuesday.In this joint exercise, the fifth Army of the Russian Federation and Indian Army's Mechanized Infantry Battalion took part. As many as 500 soldiers from both sides took part in the exercise, which was conducted at the Babina field firing range here.The exercise was held to provide training to soldiers as well as to understand the arms and ammunition of the two countries.This comes amid Indian Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba's 3-day visit to Russia. His visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral defense relations and explore new avenues for defense cooperation between the two nations.
3 US military personnel killed in Afghan blast
The US military on Tuesday informed that three of its service members were killed by an improvised explosive device near the city of Ghazni, Afghanistan.The US military also informed that three US service members and an American contractor were injured in the blast.According to CNN, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and "completely destroying" a tank. The names of those killed were not immediately disclosed pending the notification of next of kin. The attack was one of the deadliest against US service members in Afghanistan since 2017.In the recent weeks, the Taliban has increased its insurgencies in the areas around Ghazni province in southern Afghanistan. In an immediate effect, the United States has sent additional troops into the region to help Afghan forces retain control of the Taliban dominated areas.CNN quoted a recent report released by the US government's own ombudsman of the war found that the Afghan government now controls only 56 per cent of the districts .

Nigeria's Buhari to visit troops fighting Boko Haram
Nigeria's Muhammadu Buhari will visit troops on the frontlines of the Boko Haram conflict on Wednesday and is to dispatch his defence minister to Chad following a jump in attacks. The presidential visit comes after months of deadly raids by the IS-affiliated jihadists on military bases which have left scores of troops dead or missing in the volatile northeast. The 75-year-old former general, who is running for re-election in February presidential polls, is under pressure over claims the nine-year Islamist insurgency was close to defeat. Naxals kill 19-year-old collegian in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
A 19-year-old collegian was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district after they accused him of being a police informer, a senior official said Tuesday. A group of armed Naxals Sunday night entered Dipak Farsa's house in Ingum village in Jangla area and assaulted him with stones and sharp-edged weapons, killing him instantly, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI. Villagers have said the Naxals who attacked Farsa had accused him of working for the police, Garg said. Garg, however, categorically denied that Farsa was an informer or had any association with the police, adding that he was a first-year student in a college in Bhairamgarh. A search operation has been mounted in the region to nab Farsa's killers, Garg added.
Three US soldiers killed in Afghanistan: NATO
Three US soldiers were killed and three wounded by a bomb in Afghanistan Tuesday, NATO said, taking the number of American service personnel to die in the war-torn country this year to 12. NATO's Resolute Support mission would not immediately release any details about the soldiers, but said they had been killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near Ghazni city in central Afghanistan. An American contractor was also wounded, it said, adding that the four injured in the blast were receiving medical care. The casualties come just days after another US soldier was killed in Afghanistan's Nimroz province on Saturday. An initial review showed the soldier was "likely accidentally shot by our Afghan partner force", a NATO statement said Tuesday, adding that the "tragic" incident occurred as they engaged in a battle with al Qaeda militants. Man shot dead, Rs 10 lakh looted in Bihar
Armed robbers on Tuesday looted Rs 10 lakh cash from a bank and shot dead one bank employee in Bihar's Katihar district.The incident took place at Bandhan Bank branch near Ameen Chowk area of the city under Pothia police station. Another employee was also injured during the attack. He has been referred to a hospital in Purnea. More details are awaited. Police are investigating the incident.

Security forces gun down 2 LeT terrorists in Kulgam
Two terrorists affiliated with the proscribed terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba were shot dead and one jawan succumbed to injuries in an encounter here on Tuesday.The encounter began early this morning following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Redwani area of this district.The jawan of the Rashtriya Rifles who had sustained injuries in the encounter was rushed to a nearby hospital. Three militants, including one from an ISIS offshoot, and a soldier were killed while two jawans suffered injuries in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam and Pulwama districts on Tuesday, police said. In the Kulgam encounter, two militants of the terror group Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed, while the one killed in Pulwama belonged to the Ansar Ghazwatul Hind, an ISIS offshoot, they said. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Redwani area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir around midnight, a police official said here. He said the operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.
