India and Russia conducted joint military exercise, Indra 2018 in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on Tuesday.In this joint exercise, the fifth Army of the Russian Federation and Indian Army's Mechanized Infantry Battalion took part. As many as 500 soldiers from both sides took part in the exercise, which was conducted at the Babina field firing range here.The exercise was held to provide training to soldiers as well as to understand the arms and ammunition of the two countries.This comes amid Indian Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba's 3-day visit to Russia. His visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral defense relations and explore new avenues for defense cooperation between the two nations.
The US military on Tuesday informed that three of its service members were killed by an improvised explosive device near the city of Ghazni, Afghanistan.The US military also informed that three US service members and an American contractor were injured in the blast.According to CNN, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and "completely destroying" a tank. The names of those killed were not immediately disclosed pending the notification of next of kin. The attack was one of the deadliest against US service members in Afghanistan since 2017.In the recent weeks, the Taliban has increased its insurgencies in the areas around Ghazni province in southern Afghanistan. A 19-year-old collegian was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district after they accused him of being a police informer, a senior official said Tuesday. A group of armed Naxals Sunday night entered Dipak Farsa's house in Ingum village in Jangla area and assaulted him with stones and sharp-edged weapons, killing him instantly, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI. Villagers have said the Naxals who attacked Farsa had accused him of working for the police, Garg said. Garg, however, categorically denied that Farsa was an informer or had any association with the police, adding that he was a first-year student in a college in Bhairamgarh. A search operation has been mounted in the region to nab Farsa's killers, Garg added.
Three US soldiers were killed and three wounded by a bomb in Afghanistan Tuesday, NATO said, taking the number of American service personnel to die in the war-torn country this year to 12. Armed robbers on Tuesday looted Rs 10 lakh cash from a bank and shot dead one bank employee in Bihar's Katihar district.The incident took place at Bandhan Bank branch near Ameen Chowk area of the city under Pothia police station.
