The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Saturday approved procurement worth approximately Rs. 46,000 crore for the purchase of defence equipments and supplies, including 111 utility helicopters, 14 Vertically Launched Short Range Missile and 150 indigenously developed 155 mm Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems.In a meeting chaired by Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, the DAC approved Rs. 21,000 crore out of the total procurement amount for purchasing 111 utility helicopters for the Navy. Four people were seriously injured in a clash between two groups at Pirkheda village in Shamli district, police said today. They suffered bullet injuries and are being treated at a hospital. Egyptian security officials say four policemen and four militants have been killed during clashes in the restive northern Sinai Peninsula. The officials said that militants armed with explosives and RPGs attacked a checkpoint at the entrance to el-Arish city today. They said another 10 policemen were wounded. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief media. At least 16 children are among nearly 30 civilians kidnapped by Islamic State militants in southern Syria a month ago and are being used as a "bargaining chip" in negotiations with the Syrian government and its ally Russia, Human Rights Watch said today. Ten more people were arrested today in connection with the clashes at Rajasthan's Malpura town in which 15 Kanwariyas were injured on Thursday, police said. So far, 28 people have been arrested and there has been no relaxation in the curfew, which was imposed yesterday following the clashes, they said. Clashes erupted after locals pelted stones at Kanwariyas in Malpura in Tonk district on Thursday injuring 15 of them. The situation remains tense but is under control, police said. Station House Officer (SHO), Malpura, Navnit Bihari Vyas said with 10 more arrests today, a total of 28 people have been arrested since the incident. There has been no relaxation in the curfew considering the law and order situation in the town. The situation is under control, he said. No fresh incidents of violence was reported since yesterday, the SHO said.
