Violence erupts in Bihar district over illegal abattoir

Violence erupted today when cow vigilantes tried to force closure of an unlicensed slaughter house in a remote part of the district, prompting the police to fire in the air and burst tear gas shells for bringing the situation under control, official sources said. The incident took place in Bishanpur locality under Kochadhaman police station area where activists, including a woman, of NGO "Gau Gyan Foundation" asked those running an illegal abattoir to shut shop, a statement issued from the office of District Magistrate Mahendra Kumar said. A mob gathered at the spot and began moving menacingly towards the activists, who rushed to a police outpost nearby and locked themselves inside. Search operation near LoC in Rajouri over suspicious movement

A search operation was launched near the Line of Control (LoC) today over reported suspicious movement in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police officials said. The security personnel launched a search operation in a village close to LoC in the Nowshera sector based on reports of suspected movement, they said. The operation was on when reports last came in, they said. Earlier, the Army had foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in this sector yesterday in which one jawan was injured, according to officials.

2 mosques attacked with catapults and ball bearings in UK

Two mosques in Britain's Birmingham were targeted with heavy-duty catapults and ball bearings overnight, police said today. Armed police officers have been deployed outside the mosques, they said. West Midlands Police were called to Masjid Qamarul Islam in Small Heath area of the city at around 10pm (local time) and then to Al-Hijrah mosque nearby around 20 minutes later. Police said they had recovered some ball bearings which appeared to have been fired from catapults, which smashed windows during evening prayers. "Firearms officers were deployed as a precaution, but the bearings recovered are thought to be from a heavy-duty catapult," West Midlands Police said in a statement. "The reason for the attacks aren't clear at this stage, but officers are continuing to patrol the area to reassure worshippers and local residents," the statement said. IS claims responsibility for deadly Kabul attack on Shiite students

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the horrific suicide bombing the previous day that targeted a Shiite area of the Afghan capital, killing 34 students. The claim of responsibility was posted today on the IS-affiliated Aamaq news agency. IS says its bomber, identified as "martyrdom-seeking brother Abdul Raouf al-Khorasani" carried out the attack, allegedly killing or wounding more than 200 students. Afghanistan's Health Ministry has released a revised casualty toll, saying 34 students were killed and 57 were wounded. Afghanistan's IS affiliate is known as The Islamic State in Khorasan Province. Khorasan is the ancient name for an area that encompassed parts of present-day Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Four soldiers injured in exchange of fire in Nowgam

Four soldiers were injured in an exchange of fire with militants in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district today, officials said Army soldiers noticed some suspicious movement near the Line of Control and challenged the suspected militants at around 3 am, the officials said. They said the infiltrators started firing towards the position of Army personnel, who retaliated effectively. Four soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire, they said adding the injured personnel were evacuated to a medical facility in Kupwara. Defence and Army officials did not comment on the incident, saying they were ascertaining details from the ground.

Pak troops violate ceasefire in Tanghdar

Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district, officials said here today. The ceasefire violation took place in Saedapora area along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector late last night as Pakistani troops opened fire towards Indian posts, the officials said. They said the Indian Army retaliated in adequate measure, triggering intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides. The firing stopped at 5.00 am, the officials said, adding there was no report of any casualty on either side. Defence officials said they were ascertaining the details from the ground.

Kabul's military training centre attacked

Gunmen attacked military training centre in Qala-e-Wazir in Kabul city on Thursday, reported Tolo News.According to Aljazeera, the assault which is currently underway started at approximately 10.15am local time.There is no report of any casualty or injury as yet. Saudi forces arrest armed 'extremist' after gunfight: Ministry

US blacklists Russian, Chinese firms for violating N Korea's sanctions

Explosives case: Air pistols, pellets seized from Raut's house

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra police claimed to have seized four air pistols today from the house of Vaibhav Raut, who was arrested with two others last week for an alleged conspiracy to carry out blasts in the state. A senior ATS official said an Innova car belonging to Raut was also seized from his house in Nallasopara near Mumbai. Besides, the agency seized a laptop, two CPUs, 20 air pistol pellets and some other material, he said.
