8 policemen killed, 23 injured in three suicide attacks in Pak's Balochistan

At least eight policemen were killed and 23 others injured today in three separate suicide attacks within an hour targeting security personnel in Pakistan's restive south-western Balochistan province. One suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a police truck on Airport Road in the provincial capital Quetta, killing at least eight security personnel and injuring 15 others, rescue and security officials were quoted as saying by the Express Tribune. "It is a suicide attack," Balochistan police chief Moazzam Jah Ansari said. Half an hour earlier, two suicide bombers struck a Frontier Corps (FC) check post on the outskirts of Quetta. 5 killed, 8 injured in Quetta suicide bombings

At least five police personnel on Tuesday were killed and eight others wounded in multiple explosions in Balochistan's capital city Quetta in Pakistan.One of the explosions was reported in Mina Gundi area near the western bypass, targeting a Frontier Corps (FC) post, Pakistan's Express Tribune reported, citing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), as saying, in a statement.The Inter-Services Public Relations, is the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.Three suicide bombers attempted to attack the FC post. However, according to the report, the attack was foiled and two suicide bombers were killed.The third and the latest suicide bomber targeted a police van on Airport Road which resulted in the deaths of five police personnel.The injured have been admitted to the hospital.Bomb disposal squad has been deployed at the sites.The explosions are being investigated and the sites have been cordoned off by security forces.

Mob attacks Diphu police station, 11 injured

Police lathi charged, burst tear gas shells and fired rubber bullets today to control a mob that attacked the Diphu police station demanding that a person arrested for alleged rape and abatement of suicide of a girl be handed over to it. At least 11 persons, ten police personnel and one protestor were injured in stone pelting by the mob on the police station this afternoon and the police action, a senior police official said. "We were forced to lathicharge and burst tear gas shells to disperse them. Also a few rounds of rubber bullets fired," Karbi Anglong superintendent of police V Siva Prasad Ganjala said. The girl went to the house of her reported boy friend and committed suicide after an argument over some issues. Her family members in their complaint said that she was raped and murdered by the boy friend and filed an FIR with the police. Acting on this, the person was taken into custody, the police added.

Fifteen Naxals arrested in Chhattisgarh's Sukma, Narayanpur

Fifteen Naxals were today arrested from Sukma and Narayanpur districts of Chhattisgarh, police officials said. They informed that nine rebels were arrested from Konta area in Sukma, around 500 kilometres from here, while the others were picked up from within Orchha police station limits in Narayanpur. "The nine were nabbed when a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police was conducting a search operation in Konta area," Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI. He informed that Muchaki Kosa (24), among the nine arrested, was an active member of the proscribed outfit's "military platoon number 8" and was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head. Arunachal Cong demands complete withdrawal of AFSPA

The Centre's decision to withdraw AFSPA from parts of Arunachal Pradesh has evoked divergent views from political parties in the state, with the ruling BJP being cautious and the Congress demanding the total withdrawal of the "draconian law". State Congress president Takam Sanjoy said the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, which empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest individuals without prior notice, is "not relevant" in a peaceful state like Arunachal Pradesh. "When the Centre can lift the Act from Meghalaya, why not in Arunachal Pradesh? There are no records of terrorist activities in the state over the past several years. There are other laws to deal with such activities and AFSPA would only jeopardise public peace," he claimed. IAF tested capability to handle nuke warfare during mega exercise

The Indian Air Force tested its capability in dealing with a possible scenario of nuclear and biological warfare during a 13-day-long mega military exercise whose aim was to sharpen its war waging capability in the wake of fast evolving regional security situation. Official sources said the focus of the Gagan Shakti exercise from April 8 to 20 was to check the viability of IAF's operational plans to deal with any kind of challenge including nuclear warfare and a possible situation of a two-front war with China and Pakistan. A major focus of the exercise was to check combat capability of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and their performance was satisfactory, IAF sources said. All the four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Lam village of Tral in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday.The identity of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained.During the encounter, incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot. Naxal ops: CRPF to replace 12,000 older troops with young personnel in Chhattisgarh

The CRPF has decided to replace about 12,000 of its aged troops with young and freshly inducted recruits to bring agility and renewed strength in its anti-Naxal operations in the LWE-hit areas of Chhattisgarh. The paramilitary, designated as the lead force against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country, has recently recruited and trained about 20,000 fresh troops and has now planned to deploy the 'young blood' in these strenuous operations that require personnel to be out in jungles for days together, in harsh climatic conditions. The first-time measure, a senior official told PTI, is part of the forces' strategy to bring renewed vigour in its operations by posting young and motivated personnel and having the least amount of causalities and injuries on its side. Advocates clash on court premises, few injured

A man was shot at and injured and a few lawyers were hurt after two groups of advocates clashed on the Civil Court's premises here over the district bar association elections, police said today. Both the groups lodged complaints against each other yesterday at the Kotwali police station, Station House Officer (SHO), Fateh Singh said. He said a client of a lawyer was shot at and injured during the firing in the clash. The person was admitted to a hospital along with the other advocates who were hurt in the violence, the officer said. Circle Officer Gajendra Singh said the case is being investigated. The reason behind the clash could be the animosity between the groups over the elections of the district bar association, police said.
