Turkey detains 2 militants trying to enter parliament

Police in Turkey have detained two suspected left-wing militants who tried to enter the country's parliament with sharp objects and a hoax explosive device, officials said Wednesday. Fahrettin Altun, the presidential communications director, said in a tweet that the suspects were identified as members of the banned Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, also known as DHKP-C. He called their attempt a "terrorist act against the will and the peace of the nation." The state-run Anadolu Agency said the suspects a woman and a man arrived at the parliament building on Tuesday and tried to take a security official hostage before they were subdued. The suspects were carrying sharp objects and an item that was made to look like a bomb, Anadolu reported. The DHKP-C is considered a terror organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union. Maj Gen A K Dhingra appointed as the first Special Operations Division Commander

Ace Special Forces operative and Sri Lanka war veteran Major General AK Dhingra has been appointed as the first head of country's first tri-services Special Operations Division comprising commandos from all three services.The Armed Forces Special Operations Division has been set up by the government to undertake joint operations by three services and will have elements from the Army's Parachute Regiments SF, Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Navy and the Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force."Maj Gen Dhingra is a Special Forces veteran and is from the elite 1 Para Special Forces Regiment. UNSC sanctions terror group ISIS' South Asia Branch

The UN has sanctioned ISIS' South Asia Branch, a terrorist group formed in 2015 by a Pakistani national and a former commander of the TTP, for its links with al-Qaeda and involvement in several deadly attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan that killed over 150 people. The United Nations Security Council's 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee on Tuesday sanctioned Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant - Khorasan (ISIL-K), which is also known as 'ISIS' South Asia Branch, ISIL Khorasan, Islamic State's Khorasan Province' and 'South Asian Chapter of ISIL'. Policeman dies at training centre

A 52-year-old Delhi police personnel has died at a training centre in Delhi, police said on Wednesday. The deceased, Suresh Kaushik, was taken to a hospital after he complained of uneasiness on Tuesday night. Kaushik died during treatment at the hospital, the police said. Kaushik was undergoing training as an assistant sub-inspector of police at the training centre in Wazirabad since April 1, the police added.

Afghanistan: Prison riot kills 4 inmates, 33 injured including police

Four inmates lost their lives while 33 others, including 20 police officers, were injured after riots broke out at the Pul-e-Charkhi prison here on Tuesday (local time).The clash began after the police started searching some cells at the prison, according to Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior Affairs."Attorney General Office and Ministry of Interior Affairs had ordered a search of Special Narcotics Blocks of Pul-e-Charkhi Prison. Four buildings were searched in the morning. But later violence broke out at midday during the search of remaining buildings after a group of prisoners attacked police, injuring 10 police officers," Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman from the ministry, told Xinhua.The police personnel fired in the air during the face-off, which saw the inmates trying to grab the police forces' weapons. Sudan army, protesters agree 3 year transition: General

Sudanese army rulers and protest leaders Wednesday agreed on a three-year transition period for transferring power to a full civilian administration, a general announced. "We agreed on a transitional period of three years," Lieutenant General Yasser al-Atta, a member of the military council that took power after the ouster of longtime leader Omar al-Bashir, told reporters. Atta said a final agreement on the sharing of power, including the forming of the next ruling body -- the sovereign council -- will be signed with the protest movement, the Alliance for Freedom and Change, within 24 hours. "We vow to our people that the agreement will be completed fully within 24 hours in a way that it meets the people's aspirations," Atta said. UP: GRP inspector arrested for looting businessman

Saharanpur Police has arrested a Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector and two others for allegedly robbing a businessman in Saharanpur.Superintendent of Police, GRP Abhishek Yadav said, "Lalit was the incharge of the control room in Agra. He has been arrested by Saharanpur Police based on a loot case against him. Two others also have been arrested. Two other GRP personnel are wanted. They've been suspended and matter is being probed."The police said that GRP inspector Lalit looted Rs 8.43 lakh from the businessman in the wee hours on May 13.Upon arrest, Rs 4.94 lakh was recovered from the possession of the accused.

Syria TV says 6 killed in insurgent attack on displaced camp

Syrian state TV says six people were killed when insurgents lobbed missiles into a government-controlled displaced people's camp in the country's northwest. Al-Ikhbariya TV said the dead from Tuesday's attack on the Nayrab camp southeast of Aleppo city included two children. An Al-Ikhbariya journalist in Aleppo said the missiles landed around sunset, when Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan break their fast. At least 3 killed in suicide car bombing in Somali capital

A police officer says a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of a district headquarters in Somalia's capital, killing at least three people. Capt. Mohamed Hussein says the bomber tried to enter the Warta Nabada district headquarters, which is close to the presidential palace in Mogadishu. Three other people were injured in the attack on Tuesday claimed by the al-Shabab extremist group. The bombing was the first since the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Three enter showroom for test drive, flee with SUV

A brand new sports utility vehicle (SUV) was stolen allegedly by three men who had walked into a showroom in Greater Noida for a test drive, police said Tuesday. The incident took place on Sunday at the Hyundai showroom in Greater Noida's Kasna area, they said. "The trio had entered the showroom posing as customers. After a walk around inside the showroom they showed interest in an SUV, a Creta, but soon took out a pistol to intimidate a salesman," a police official said. "Next they got into the car and sped away from the showroom," the official said. An FIR for loot was registered against the trio following a complaint from the representatives of the showroom, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kasna police station Ajay Kumar said.
