Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Monday said it has bagged "large orders" in the water & effluent treatment segment in the domestic market. The work order has been received from the State Water & Sanitation Mission, Uttar Pradesh, to construct a water supply scheme for the Hanumanganj multi-group of villages in the districts of Ballia and Firozabad, L&T said in a statement. L&T Construction, an arm of the company, has been awarded large contracts for its water & effluent treatment business, it said. The company did not disclose the order value. According to the company's project classification, large orders are in the range of Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore. Homegrown L&T is a USD 23-billion company engaged in Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, hi-tech manufacturing and services and operated in over 50 countries worldwide.
Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi wrote to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on Saturday and asked him to ensure that people affected by flooding and living in relief camps in Delhi have access to toilets and don't face a shortage of water or electricity. She asked the chief secretary to immediately address the issues. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday took stock of the acute water shortage in Shimla, stemming from days of heavy rainfall that damaged the supply schemes and caused silt to accumulate in the sources. In a statement, Shukla said the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has released the first instalment of Rs 180 crore to Himachal Pradesh as immediate relief. Shukla has also sent a detailed report on the damages to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the statement said. The governor enquired about the arrangements to supply water and its status from the officials concerned. He also issued directions to Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi to resume supply and provide relief to the people affected by the disaster in the district. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said water supply may be affected in parts of the city with the shutting down of treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla following rising levels of the Yamuna. The Yamuna river swelled to a staggering 208.48 metres Thursday morning, inundating nearby streets and public and private infrastructure, and causing immense hardships to people living in close proximity to the river. The water level at the Old Railway Bridge crossed the 208-metre mark Wednesday night and rose to 208.48 metres by 8 am on Thursday. It is expected to rise further, according to the Central Water Commission, which has termed it an "extreme situation". "The water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla are being shut due to rising Yamuna water level. Due to this, there will be a problem of water supply in some areas. These plants will start functioning as soon as the Yamuna water recedes," he tweeted in Hindi.
Toshiba Water Solutions Private Limited on Tuesday announced it has received a contract from Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for design, upgradation, rehabilitation with capacity augmentation. The firm, a subsidiary of Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (TISS), has also secured the contract for operation and maintenance services of three sewage treatment plants (STPs). The agreement is also for the upgradation and rehabilitation of five STPs in Bengaluru. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Monday said Mahoba in Bundelkhand region will soon become the state's first district to get piped drinking water in all its households. The Delhi Jal Board has "not cleared" the drawings for the laying down of water and sewer pipelines for an in situ rehabilitation project site here, despite a request by the DDA, official sources claimed on Friday. There was no immediate reaction from the DJB. Requests from the DDA for the supply of water and laying of sewer lines is "pending with the DJB" since 2013 in the case of Kalkaji Bhoomiheen Camp, and since 2017 in the case of Jailorwala Bagh, the sources said. The Jailorwala Bagh in situ rehabilitation project is ready for possession for 1,800 slum-dwelling families. "The DJB has not even cleared the drawings for the laying down of water and sewer pipelines till now, despite a request made by the DDA back in 2017," a source said. Cracks in the Carrier Lined Channel, a canal which carries water from Haryana to Delhi, have affected supply in the national capital which may impact around 30 lakh people, the city government said Wednesday. Delhi Water Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said the cracks developed between Khubru and Kakroi near Sonepat in Haryana. The matter is being pursued with the Haryana government and it will take 48 to 72 hours to repair the canal, he said, adding that though the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is rationing water, a large population in Delhi will be in inconvenience because of the peak summer season. "Presently, there is a deficit of around 20 per cent in raw water supply from Haryana to Delhi. This may cause water scarcity problems to almost 30 lakh population in Delhi," Bhardwaj tweeted. The Rajasthan government Wednesday said it has sanctioned over Rs 31 crore for strengthening the water supply infrastructure in Ajmer city. The financial sanction of Rs 31.14 crore approved by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will be used to ensure a smooth water supply in Ajmer and renovate old pipelines or build new ones, an official statement said. In the state budget for 2023-24, Gehlot had made a provision for various works to boost the water supply infrastructure of Ajmer. Under this project, Rs 12 crore will be spent in 2023-24, Rs 16 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 3.14 crore in 2025-26, the statement said. Other financial approvals by the government include a sanction of Rs 2.21 crore for beautification projects in the Sirohi district, the statement added. The tourism department will spend Rs 1.62 crore for revamping the Dudiya Talab and the remaining amount will be used to construct a ghat near the Isbor Mahadev Temple in the district, the government said.
Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia on Friday claimed that 86 per cent of rural households in the northeastern state have been provided with tap water connections under the Centre's Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that 1.14 lakh of 1.33 lakh rural households in the state have been benefitted. The deputy chief minister said 2,013 of 2,168 schools and 1,526 of 1,583 Anganwadi centres have received tap water connections. He said the state government has set a target to provide tap water connection to 22,485 rural households this year. Of this, 4,318 households have been covered so far, he said.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said the Gurugram water supply project will be completed by May 2026 and provide uninterrupted drinking water supply to the city and Manesar, according to an official statement. Thirty-seven water supply schemes costing Rs 317 crore are in progress in the district here, Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq said Wednesday. Sadiq gave the information presiding over a district-level action plan meeting of Jal Jeevan Mission for Bilaspur area. The committee approved Rs 59.11 crore for groundwater augmentation in Bilaspur, Ghumarwin, and Jhandutta in the meeting. Of this sum, Rs 19.73 crore has been provisioned for Bilaspur, Rs 23.61 crore for Ghumarwin, and Rs 15.76 crore for Jhandutta, Sadiq said. In the meeting, he directed the officers to ensure availability of water for irrigation for agriculture and horticulture purposes. The DC also asked the officers to consider the possibilities of water supply through Koldam or Gobind Sagar Dam for the district and submit a detailed report to him.
