Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Rajasthan today with Churu recording the hottest place in the state at 48.5 degrees Celsius. Churu was followed by Bikaner and Sriganganagar which sizzled at 46.5 degrees Celsius while Kota, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Ajmer and Jaipur recorded maximum of 45.7, 45, 44.6, 44 and 42.9 degrees Celsius respectively, according to the Meteorological (MeT) department here. The state and the weather conditions would remain the same during the next 24 hours, it said.

At 33.2 degrees Celsius, Jammu records hottest night

The night temperature in Jammu touched the season's high at 33.2 degrees Celsius, while cloud cover accompanied by gusty winds engulfed the city which has been reeling under heat wave conditions for the past fortnight. Some parts of the city witnessed a brief spell of rain before the gusty winds started blowing, while hailstorm and heavy rains were reported from various districts, including Poonch and Rajouri, during the day, officials said. After recording a low of 31.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, the minimum temperature in the city of temples continued its upward trend and settled at 33.2 degrees Celsius, 7.5 notches above normal, a spokesman of the MeT department said. The city had recorded the highest night temperature on June 4, 2003 when the mercury had hit 34.3 degrees Celsius mark. Hot weather conditions prevail in Hry, Pb; Narnaul hottest at 44.5 deg C

Hot weather conditions continued to prevail in most parts of Haryana and Punjab with Narnaul recording the hottest place at 44.5 degrees Celsius. Among other places in Haryana, blistering heat swept Hisar, which recorded a high of 43 degrees Celsius while Bhiwani, too, experienced a hot day at 42.5 degrees Celsius. Narnaul in Haryana recorded a two degrees above normal maximum temperature, the Meteorological (MeT) Department report said here. Ambala recorded a high of 39.3 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Amritsar had a hot day at 41.9 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala, too, experienced the hot weather recording respective maximum temperatures of 40.7 degrees Celsius and 39.9 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a high of 39.9 degrees Celsius.

Dry weather in UP; Fatehgarh hottest at 43.4 deg C

The weather was dry over Uttar Pradesh with Fatehgarh recording the highest maximum temperature at 43.4 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, on Monday, day temperatures were below normal in Bareilly and Meerut. The highest maximum temperature in the state was 43.4 degrees Celsius recorded at Fatehgarh. Rain/thunderstorm are very likely at isolated places over the state and dust storm, accompanied with gusty winds, are very likely at isolated places over the state on June 6. Rain/thunderstorm are very likely at a few places over eastern Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over western Uttra Pradesh on June 8.

Monsoon expected to hit Maharashtra by June 6

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that monsoon is likely to reach Maharashtra and surrounding areas by June 6.Rainfall is expected by June 7.IMD has predicted normal rainfall for the country, as well as Maharashtra."The rainfall will start from June 7, by June 9 there will be extremely heavy rainfall," Ajay Kumar, scientist, Indian Meteorological Department told ANI"Heavy rainfall from June 8 to June 10 or 11, Konkan area (Thane, Palghar, Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ratnagiri) will receive heavy rainfall," he added.Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning on Monday night, causing water-logging and disruption of local train services.Monsoon has already hit Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and North-East and will move up north after Maharashtra.

Heavy rain, winds bring respite from heat in Kashmir

Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds in Kashmir today brought respite from the hot spell for the residents, bringing down the day temperature significantly. Heavy rain and gusty winds were reported from many parts of Kashmir where the maximum temperature was mostly eight degrees above normal, officials said. Yesterday, the meteorological department declared a heat wave across Kashmir with Srinagar recording the season's highest temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, 8.1 degrees above normal. The MeT department had predicted no relief for the next few days from the scorching heat. The rain came as a pleasant surprise.

Conditions favourable for SW monsoon to advance in Telangana

The conditions are turning to be favourable for southwest monsoon to advance into some parts of Telangana in the next 48 hours, the Met office said today. The southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh today, Met office sources said. "Conditions are becoming favourable for advance into some parts of Telangana and some more parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and remaining parts of of Rayalaseema during next 48 hours," they said.

Kashmir, parts of country reel under heat wave; 5 die in Maha in rain-related incidents

Heat wave conditions have been declared across Kashmir as many parts of the country reeled under scorching heat today, even as five deaths have been reported in separate rain-related incidents in Nashik. Weather agencies have predicted monsoon to hit Maharashtra and Goa in the next two days. In Kashmir, where heat wave was declared, the maximum temperature recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius, 8.1 notches above normal. "When the maximum temperature is more than four degrees above the normal in the hilly areas, we declare a heat wave in those areas. In Kashmir, it has gone up between 6 and 8 degrees in all recording stations of the Valley," Director of the Meteorological (MeT) Department Sonam Lotus said. A heat wave has been declared across Kashmir as the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius, 8.1 degrees Celsius above normal, with no signs of respite from the unusually high temperatures in the next few days. Jammu records hottest night, day temperature touches 40 deg C mark

The winter capital Jammu recorded the hottest night as the mercury settled at 31.4 degrees Celsius, while the day temperature today were recorded at 40 degrees Celsius after staying below for the past two days, the MeT office said. From 26.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the minimum temperature jumped to 31.4 degrees Celsius, which is 5.9 degrees above normal, during this part of the season, a spokesperson of the Meteorological (MeT) office said. Rain expected in Telangana in next 48 hours

The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) on Monday said that light to moderate rains is expected in several parts of Telangana in the next 48 hours.Talking to ANI, IMD scientist Naga Ratna said, present situation indicates that the South-west monsoon has entered into some parts of Rayalaseema and few adjoining parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh."During next 48 hours, the South-West monsoon is likely to advance in parts of Telangana. Southern districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall and one or two spells of heavy rain," Ratna said.The state saw pre-monsoon showers in several districts yesterday, which brought down the temperature and provided relief to the locals from the scorching heat.Earlier this week, at least five people lost their lives and several got injured due to thunderstorms and lightning in Guntur district.

Five killed in rain-related incidents in Nashik division

Five people were killed in two separate rain-related incidents as pre-monsoon showers accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning hit the Nashik division over the weekend, the police said today. The Nashik division in Maharashtra comprises five districts - Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Ahmednagar and Nashik. A 32-year-old woman and her three minor daughters were killed when a tree fell on them at Varkhedi village in the neighbouring Dhule district yesterday, a police official said. The deceased were identified as Anita Daduram Pavra and her daughters Vashila (3), Pinky (2) andRoshani (1), he said. In another incident, a 27-year-old man died when lightning struck him at Ambewadi in Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district last evening. The minimum temperatures rose by a few notches today across Himachal Pradesh and Keylong and Manali were coldest with a low of 9.6 degrees Celsius.
