Y S Jaganmohan Reddy

Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is the founder president of the YSR Congress. His father, YSR Reddy, as a member of the Indian National Congress, was a two-time chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Jaganmohan started his political journey by campaigning for the INC in 2004 Assembly elections and was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from Kadapa constituency for the Congress. When fis father passed away in 2009 in a helicopter crash, Jagan wanted to take out odarpu yatra (condolence tour) in his memory. During the turmoil of state division, Jagan went on a hunger strike protesting the formation of Telangana. He and his mother resigned from the legislature after the creation of Telangana.

In the 2014 state Assembly polls, the YSR Congress won 67 of the state’s 175 seats.

In 2018, he was attacked with a knife in the VIP lounge of an airport and underwent a surgery. He has been under the Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner over a disproportionate asset case. Earlier, he had been arrested by the CBI and kept in the judicial custody for 16 months.
