Rahul Gandhi begins roadshow in Varanasi

Varanasi, May 10 (ANI): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday began his roadshow in Varanasi, from where BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal are contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Rahul is campaigning in Varanasi for Congress candidate Ajay Rai, who is pitted against Modi and Kejriwal. The roadshow started from Gol Gadda area of Varanasi and will extend for about 11 kilometres. The Congress supporters had already gathered before the Congress vice president arrived. Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik are accompanying Rahul. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is also slated to hold a rally in Varanasi today.

Congress practices secularism, will check spread of hatred: Sonia

Valmikinagar, May 10 (ANI): Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi said her ruling Congress party practiced secularism and would check spread of hatred. She also accused the main opposition BJP and its parent body the RSS for spreading hatred among communities to acquire political power. Gandhi said the Congress would not allow such a design to succeed.

Kejriwal slams Modi's 'helicopter politics' during roadshow in Varanasi

Varanasi, May 09 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal during his roadshow in Varanasi on Friday slammed BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for resorting to helicopter and corrupt politics. Kejriwal said that it was a historical election and people of Kashi will have to decide whether they will support corrupt politics presented by Modi, or they will choose clean politics. Kejriwal also added that Modi was doing politics even on Ganga Arti.

Mamata Banerjee attacks Modi, calls him 'Danga Babu'

West Bengal, May 09 (ANI): Continuing the war of words with BJP's PM Candidate Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called him 'Danga Babu'. She said that all the religions live together and Modi wants to divide them for his frustration or anger. Banerjee also accused the party of collecting 'Modi for PM' fund and said that her party will write to the Election Commission about the same. She said that collecting money like this is illegal and against the Constitution and that Modi will sell the PM chair if voted to power.

EC rejects Narendra Modi's discrimination charges

New Delhi, May 09 (ANI): Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath rejected Narendra Modi's allegation of being biased and said it was determined to act impartially and was not afraid of any political party. Narendra Modi sharpened his attack on the poll panel calling it discriminating and biased. The party has grown increasingly critical of the election commission accusing it of being partial and not deploying enough central security forces at polling booths. On Thursday, BJP leaders wearing orange caps emblazoned with "Modi for PM" logos held protests both in Varanasi and the capital New Delhi, alleging that the agency was blocking Modi from campaigning in Varanasi.

Varanasi, May 09 (ANI): The political fever reached its climax in the high voltage battleground of Varanasi constituency, after the BJP's PM Candidate Narendra Modi, accused the Election Commission (EC) of discrimination for barring him from holding rallies in his constituency. Varanasi goes to the polls on Monday, while the results are due on May 16. Modi launched a sneaking attack on the EC accusing them of being biased. The independent monitoring agency is widely credited for ensuring free and fair elections in India, in which 815 million voters have been called to the polls over five weeks. Rahul Gandhi blames BJP for creating tensions among states

Ghatal, May 09 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Ghatal district of West Bengal accused the BJP of playing communal and divisive politics and beating women. Gandhi attacked BJP in one of his last attempts to win over voters before the five-week-long elections come to a close with just one voting phase left. Gandhi also took a jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and said her ruling Trinamool Congress was not doing anything to improve the condition of the state. He also alleged that her government is not utilizing centre sponsored schemes and funds for the poor in her state.

Rahul's fate in Amethi at stake as constituency goes to polls

Amethi/ Dehradun/ Asansol, May 7 (ANI): Indian voters cast their ballot on Wednesday to decide the fate of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, as voting began in his family in the 8th phase of 2014 polls. LS Polls 2014: UP votes today for 15 LS seats

Uttar Pradesh, May 7 (ANI): Polling for the 15 seats in the crucial eight phase of 16th Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, began today. The polls will decide fate of 243 candidates, including two scions of Nehru-Gandhi family, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and BJP National Secretary Varun Gandhi. This phase is also crucial for Congress as of 15 seats spread over 17 districts, seven were won by the party in 2009 polls while five seats went to BSP and SP had won three. Seats where polling would be held today includes Amethi, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Faizabad, Gonda, Bahraich, Shravasti, Phoolpur, Ambedkarnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Bhadohi, Kaushambi, Allahabad and Kaisarganj. The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the deployment of more security personnel today as several incidents of booth capturing has taken place earlier.
